We have a Dish 500 antenna that will see 110, 119, and 129. Will it give us an HD signal from 129? We are will to sacrifice 110 (we watch these programs rarely) for the HD signal.
Thanks

I have the Dish 1000.2 and am in PA at the time. I could not get the 129 bird. Got 110 and 119 beautifully. 129 - nada. The point dish screen doesn't even give me the angles for the 129 bird when I put in my current zip code. As I have always used 61.5 for my HD I called DishNetwork "tech support" to see if they had to do anything to my receiver to receive signal from 129. I couldn't find anyone there that new anything other than what their A/I screens told them. I finally gave up and setup a second dish pointing at 61.5 for my HD.
I'm gonna watch this thread to see if anyone has an answer to our questions.

We could see the 129 satellite as our HD receiver supposedly (it said it was locking on) indicated it had. However the tuner we were using was not an HD tuner. We are in the process of remedying this, but are struggling with the necessity of getting a new satellite antenna. The Dish 500 is smaller than the 1000.2 and we would need to buy still another antenna. My better half already complains about all my "toys" and a larger and new antenna is not going to make me any points.

What ever you do, don't us the VIP 722 DVR to travel with. Ours caused us no end of grief due to the dual tuners and the multiplicity of settings you had to juggle. We even had to buy a 3rd remote as we left the correct one (the one for use with coax only cables) at home. We wanted to watch what we had recorded earlier but this turned out to be more trouble than it was worth.

A dish 500 antenna can see 110/119 or 119/129, but it can not see all three birds at once
A dish 1000 antenna can see all 3 birds at once
However since Dish puts their HD programming on 129 for the most part the answer to your question is
YES, it can pick up HD It's just an antenna and to the antenna any Ku band satellite is much like any other
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I have been out of the dish biz for a while now but I don't think 129 is a high power bird like 110 & 119. I think it's a medium power Ku bird like DirecTV's 99 & 103 Ka birds. And since it's medium power the larger Dish1000 would be a better fit.

The numbers you get for elevation, azimuth and skew from the receiver when you put in the zip code for where ever you are at is not correct for 129. Go to dish 1000.2 installation instructions and there will be a chart by zip codes, use these numbers and you will be able to receive 100. 119. and 129

Not to be picky Dan but first you would need a DISH 1000 to get 3 birds at once and the 3rd one would be 110, not 100 (I'm sure you just had a typo). A DISH 500 would only give you 2 orbital spots (side by side spots 9 degree spacing).

Nothing wrong with any of the Dish VIP recievers for traveling. I used a 722 for awhile then replaced it with a 612. They must be setup and used in a different mannor than at home. Have to chalk that one to possible operator error.

Much of PA (and everything to the northeast of PA) will have trouble seeing 129. Same goes for the deep south (the areas shaded in the picture below.) A Dish 1000 antenna that can see 110, 119, and 129 is only recommended in the white areas of this map:

If you were in the shaded area, that is likely your only solution. I'm in the same boat, I need a second dish for 61.5, there is no single dish solution in this case.
