We recently purchased a Yukon Legend Campfire and noticed that all we could get out of it was a 1 inch flame. I noticed other propane campfires in our RV site and they were exceeding 6 inches. Turning the valve on the campfire, does not change the height of the flame.
A fellow RV'er indicated that he also had issues with his identical campfire and suggested that the connector to the propane tank be tight- which it was.
The tank is full, the connector is tight, frustration is high...
Any suggestions wouls be greatly appreciated!! HELP!!
If the flame should be able to get that height the main problem should be the OPD valve on the cylinder. It not only is an overfill protection device, but also a gross leak preventer as well.
When you have a line with no pressure in it and you open the valve on the cylinder the OPD "sees" it as a massive leak and shuts off the majority of the propane flow.
The "cure" is to close off the valve on the burner and open the tank valve slowly. If the flame doesn't come up then close the burner valve to keep pressure in the line, then the tank valve.
It will take a minute or two for the OPD to reset itself and then you can slowly open the cylinder valve again. With the residual pressure in the line the valve won't trip and you'll have full flow.
Turn off the tank... wait for the pressure inthe hose to decrease... then vVERY slowly.. If you open the tank valve quickly with and empty hose the auto shut off pops in and you get just a litttle Propane flow. It thinks the hose broke off and the safty valve slide in and blocks most of the flow. DO IT SLOWLy a little bit and wait for the hose to fill and the line pressure to build before fully opening.
Thinking of buying a Yukon Legend. Would you buy another. Seems well made from what I can see on the website and a reasonable burn time for a 20 pounder.
