We also spend our winters in Mexico and there are two things you need to be aware of. 1) ULSD is NOT available in mainland Mexico and will not be until after at least 2012(check with PEMEX). 2) Ford has stated that if they find you using LSD or can prove you did use LSD, then your engine warranty and emissions warranty is void. Some people think they can get away with it, but to me even the remote possibility of loosing a warranty on a diesel engine would be enough to stop me from trying to fool them.

I agree, this will stop us from a purchase. We will just keep the 2004 F-350 until Ford gets this worked out or there are more pumps in Mexico with ULSD.

The Ford sales dept is going to get back with me on Monday on this, let's see what they have to say. I know they want to sell the truck.

The other option is to buy the truck and immediately get a DPF delete kit and EGR block plates. The it will make no difference what you burn as long as it is diesel.
The problem is that with the new emission systems on these things because of our wonderful EPA using the higher sulfur diesels as found in Mexico and other places will plug the DPF. So by removing the emission junk, you will have a better running truck, and one that can burn Pemex diesel. When and if it becomes available south of the border you could always opt to reinstall the junk

Or you could just keep what you have and save the money for future home payments.

Yup, I went through all of this research myself. Actually all 2007 1/2 year model diesels sold in california (Volvo, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Int'l, Sterling, Mercedes, etc.....ALL manufactures) now are required to use the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). If the DPF becomes clogged up (which it will with the LSD fuel), say "buh-by" to your warranty.

Anybody here that says, "go ahead and use LSD diesel" and that some idiot manufacturer tech guy said, "go ahead and use it." is nuts.

The ULSD fuel now made in America will not hurt currently made new engines. They are desgined to run on ULSD. And, the old diesel engines can run with ULSD. You just cant have the new diesels run on the old fuel (LSD). LSD is what's available in Mexico.

We don't take our diesel to Mexico when we go. We don't want to replace the DPF (Around $2,500 from General Motors) nor would we want to void our 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Lastly, for those that say, "just remove your DPF and change or "mod" your vehicle's computer program, must realize that they risk the chance also of voiding the manufactures warranty. None of the above modifications are sanctioned by any manufacturer.

Yeah, I guess if something went wrong you could replace the DPF and program the computer to factory specs, but what a hassle. Plus, they will be able to tell weahter you ran LSD or ULSD fuel. There are several ways to tell utilizing scientific means. For one, the manufacturer could easily do what's called "oil anyalysis." They'd be able to prove or disprove exactly what type of fuel you've been running in order to circumvent the exhaust system.

Secondly, ULSD vs. LSD fuel burn or combust and leave different levels of "soot" and carbon deposits throughout your exhaust system (and crank case).

If you want to risk getting caught doing all that hassle and risk your nice warranty to be voided, go for it. I guess there's always that slight chance that you'd never get caught if something went wrong, but are you willing to take that chance?

I'd say, go buy a nice used diesel, like a pre 2007 model or, buy a gasser. Unless you can wait a few years until the rest of the world (including Mexico) eventually refines their own ULSD diesel.

Take care.

Do a search on the RVing in Mexico and South America forum, and you will find much discussion on this subject. Ed White has done a lot of research on this. I don't know what I would do if I had an 07.5 diesel, but there is anticdotal evidence that many gringos,(that includes you Canucks) are driving their new trucks down there. BTW, I knew this was coming so bought an 06 model.

Ford has an extended warranty good for up to 200K miles.
Look into it if you plan on keeping the truck.

Pemex, Mexico answer to the low sulfur diesel Question?

Where can I purchse ultra low sulfur diesel?

PEMEX has been selling low sulfur diesel in the northern border line since January 2007. This supply responds to Regulation NORM082, which establishes a schedule for PEMEX to supply low sulfur content across the country in the future. For the moment, you can find low sulfur diesel in the following places: Ciudad Juárez, Ensenada, Mexicali and Rosarito.
