We used to live in Virginia Beach Virginia and it was unbearably hot and humid in the summer. 95 degrees and 95 percent humidity. No thanks!! If we still lived there there would be no question as to whether an A/C or not. We would have it. Now living in Utah it is hot but it is a dry heat which makes a world of difference. When the sun goes down the nights cool off very nicely and in fact my family is looking for the hoodies when the sun sets. I don't get it but they say that they are cold!! It also seems that if there is shade here and maybe a slight breeze it is very much bearable. Whereas the humidity is just hell all the time!!
So for us we don't seem to think we need an A/C.

I am miserable in intense heat and humidity, especially if I am moving around. One of the requirements when I bought my PUP was AC, and yes....I use it. I really like being dry when sleeping, and not being sticky when I wake up.
If it's not hot enough to use the AC, I will use the fan portion, or the table top oscellating fan.

We live in the PNW where temperatures are moderate most of the time. But you know what? We love having A/C, and whenever we've camped with hookups, we have used it.

I'd say no to getting the A/C unless you will be using the pup in weather that is too hot to sleep comfortably at night. I have not camped in the summer since I was a youngster and do not care for hot weather camping anymore since I have experienced enough of it then. I have a Coleman Fleetwood I bought new in 2000. There was a special on the A/C & installation when I bought the pup, so I got the A/C in case I ever needed it. I also had a heater installed. So far I have only use the pup in the spring when the temps are still in the upper 40's to upper 50's at night (that's why I got the heater) and upper 60's to low 80's in the daytime so I have never needed the A/C while camping.
I only ever used the A/C once and that was while working inside the pup in the yard. It was hot and I needed to clean up the inside of the pup and get it closed up for the year until the next spring. I was also tranferring gear that I would need for fall and winter hunting trips to a TT I also owned. If I were to buy a new pup I would definately not get an A/C with it unless I got rid of my newest TT. If I were to take any trips in the summer I would use the TT and yes it has A/C.

I want to thank everyone for their answers.
When I went to Maine Last year one stop was Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock area
we wore coats it was so cold yes it was summer.
In Maine weather was very nice and we only used fans.
Another reason I ask it seems that people want AC's and Heaters
in their POP-UP's now. Not so much in the past.
Again thanks PETE

Didn't have one on the first PUP and it was a requirement when buying the second. Luckily it was already installed on the camper by the previous owner. I know I paid for it in the sale price but it didn't feel like I was paying the asking price plus the AC cost.
I use it in the summer. It provides a good relief from the heat. As soon as it is cool enough, I don't use it and prefer to sleep with the screens open and fresh air moving through.

I wouldn't camp in SC without one. We were camping last weekend and it was a 102 degrees. But with the A/C the PUP was very comfortable.

I used to live in Suffolk VA, camped many nights during the summer and was just fine with a fan. I don't see any need for one and I do not plan on putting one in. I look at the cost benefit, maybe it would have been nice on two nights of camping in the last two years, so I would have paid $600 a night for a bit more comfort, not worth it to me. That $1200 can go towards other mods to the PUP or TV.

$1200? The entire job was $750 for my a/c. That was the unit and the installation. Granted, my Utah already had the bracing in place, but that would have only run me another $100. And that was right at a month ago so these aren't outdated prices.
I seriously can't imagine Summertime camping without my a/c anymore. It keeps the whole family in a happier mood.

We've had PUPs since 1968. Our first PUP with A/C was bought in 2001. Sure we camped a lot without it, but we also worried about not getting a camping spot with shade. We've left campgrounds early because the sun was too hot on our site. We've cancelled trips because the weather forcast predicted heat and humidity. But, now that we have A/C, we don't worry about any of this. We don't use the A/C all the time, but when we need it, we need it and are glad we have it. Also, if the campground is noisy, we can run the fan without A/C and mask the noise.
No, you don't HAVE to have it, but it sure makes camping a lot easier and fun with it.
