This will be our first winter (Jan & Feb 09) staying in Port Richey, Florida. Could someone tell us what type of clothing to take and what type of weather to expect.

Your normal change of underware, and socks. A couple of pairs of shoes would be nice also. Bill

Some days you will need to change a few times, Starting out with long pants and a shirt and jacket then near noon shorts and sun screen then finish the day with the things you started with. Can't believe the weatherman there either so be prepared. It can just get hot and stay that way, Never can tell. Where are you planing on staying.

You can go to www.weather.com, type in any U.S. city name, and read the averages for any month of the year.
Remember, no matter what the weather it will be better than Ohio!

Oh, let's see. I believe used my heavy jacket one time (one night)this winter. Central Florida was very warm this winter. Mostly light windbreaker weather.

If you get cold easily, you may need a heavier jacket once in awhile. Mostly, the days are nice (60s and 70s and sometimes 80s) and the evenings might get a chilly (50s).

Our rule of thumb, after our first trip down, is to lay out all the clothes we think we'll need for the trip, and then put half of them back in the closet. We took WAY too many the first year. As others have said, shorts and t-shirts for daytime, sweatshirt or light windbreaker for those RARE occasions where it gets cool. We stayed in the same area that you are, and found that generally speaking, the evenings go down to the 50's (sometimes cooler, but rarely below 40), and the days are typically in the mid 60's to mid 70's, with quite a few days into the 80's. The weather in that area reminds us of the early Michigan fall. Also, bring one heavy jacket, gloves and boots for the possible snowstorm or cold weather you may encounter on your drive down or back - and also to fit in with the locals if the temps drop below 60! Have fun.

Don't be surprised if you see a couple high 30's, or low 40 nights, a couple area's usually have freeze warnings too.

I have lived in the Area since 1972. Mostly you will need warm weather clothes but like others said don't be suprised if it does get into the low 40's or even freezing a couple of time while you are here. It seems that we always get at least one freeze each winter during the night. Last winter we camped over New Years and it was really very nice, light jacket weather. If you have any questions about the area feel free to contact me.
