We are leaving in about ten minutes for Humbolt County. This will be the fourth time we have stayed at Benbow. Nice place in my opinion. It has a nice pool, hot tub, store, pro shop, par nine golf course, right next to the Eal River, paved pull throughs, etc. I'm bringing the clubs this time and hope to get out on the course. (If the wife and kids will permit). Stop by the Sightseer for a cold one if you are up there.

Spent the night there, when passing through, in June '08. Must have been Harley-Davidson week. Didn't get much sleep. Wish they would put mufflers on those things or go to bed at some reasonable hour.

By the way, now that I remember, it seems sewer hookup was a problem.

Just passed through there last week. The river is a trickle. That looks like a nice rv resort.

Yep! it was the "Redwood Run".......More than 6,000 bikers partying in the redwoods EVERY June for the last 30 years....LOL!

We have been there and liked it. First time in the area I ran the Avenue of the Giants Marathon - enjoyed the scenery as much as possible when running 26 miles competitively - had to run 3:10 as a 45 year old to qualify for Boston and I did it with room to spare; it was my best marathon ever.

It is a neat area.

IMO, Benbow is *overpriced* and in need of site maintenance and upgrades. The sewer receptacles are 'narrow' and many are 6"-8" above ground level. I twice experienced low enough voltage to kick my power line monitor off, and *I* wasn't running anything. Many sites have cracked or crumbling pavement. There are a *lot* of residents, and more than a few have pretty messy and/or junked-up areas. Apparently, some folks feel that having a little swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, and a souvenir store makes for a 'resort' and justifies the prices. Not in my book; YMMV.

We also have enjoyed staying at Benbow. It's a bit pricey, but I enjoy the quiet and LOL the doggie "wash." :-)

Many, many years ago didn't Trailer Life have something to do with that park?

JT, I do agree with you about the sewer hookup. They have two sewer inlets at each site. One has a white cap on it and is about 6 inches above ground. Defeats the purpose if you ask me. The sewer opening would not fit with my Rhino hose. The other sewer hookup is ground level and would fit my Rhino hose, but it was sealed closed. I asked the park staff if I could get that opened. They said no, because those are not used anymore. I found that interesting, however as many sites were in fact using it. I ended up using the blue sewer hose that comes in those beginner packs. I hate using that hose because I never get a good seal. All in all, I still find it to be a nice RV Park and the golf was great as well!

You have reminded me that we had sewer smell there a lot - but this was about 8 years ago.
