Anyone here familiar w/ this area??

We're planing on visiting someone in the state prison near St. Johns. Since it's quite a drive from Phx, we'd like to camp near St. Johns for Labor Day weekend, and just go visiting for one day.
What are some nice places we could camp and maybe do some fishing?
Directions would be great!

THX!!

You could look at Lyman Lake state park just south of St. Johns

Springerville is close by the prison, and on the west side of Springville there is a RV park, and within a mile of that is Beck Lake which at one time had great fishing maybe still does.

I'll second Lyman Lake State Park. Nice place even if you are not visiting a prison.

Just came back from Lyman Lake State Park. Super camp ground, hook-ups are $19 a nite. I know this is a boondocking site and there is plenty in the area but for a short stay with all the amenities you can't go wrong.

Thx for all the great info. We'll be using it in the future, but not for our next camping trip.
More families are getting together to go camping and we've decided not to do St. John's on this trip. But we will stay at Lyman Lake, the next time we go up to visit at the Prison.
