We are renting a Alfa 40' seeya gold to go to Maine the second week in September. This will be our first RV adventure & may lead to a purchase down the road if we like it.

The Alfa has basement floor air & heat(no roof airs). There is also a 110 portable standing AC unit that the owner purchased a few weeks ago at Home Depot as the Alfa floor air is poor at best. I don't expect to need tooo much AC in Maine in September but you never know.

We will have full hook ups but...

One of the RV parks we are looking at only has 30amp service. Will we be okay with just 30 or should we go to a different RV park that offers 50amp?

You will be in Maine, you will need sweeters at night and maybe a light blank for sleeping. Good Luck and happy camping. Bill

Last September when I was up there, the heater was more important to me. It was towards the end but after Labor day, things cool off.

Make sure to ask the owner if he has a 50/30 amp adapter, if the unit(MH) is a 50 amp unit and the park only has 30 amp service you will need an adapter to connect to the electric.

Have fun, enjoy, and plan on getting hooked on RVing.

Don't be afraid to ask questions of the person you are renting from and don't be afraid to ask questions wheen you get to your campground. RV'ers in general are friendly and will answer your questions and show you much.
I beleive that all Alfa's are 50 amp so if you can get a camp site that has 50amp, you will not have to be so careful about what appliances you you use inside the MH.

WIth the Alfa.. I don't know.. 50 amp would be nice I suspect

I often take my 50 amp rig to a 30 amp site, I run one AC off a 2nd power cord is all, and everything works.. usually. (No problems to date)

If you want to know how I do it it is somewhat like http://www.psrv.net save I built my own

In your case I'd drop a 2nd line out a window or other exit (perhaps put it out under a slide out) and use that for the free-standing

I suggest a 12ga extension cord, Sears and K-mart have very nice ones, Home Depot and Lowes have very good ones.. Just not as nice as Sears units

If the motorhome has EMS (energy mangagement system) you can do quite well at a 30 amp sit. we have done it many times in warm weather. The two ac units will not start at the same time.

My coach is 50 Amp and on that I can run about as many appliances at one time that I need to. But when I'm hooked to 30 Amp usually only 2-3 items at one time according to the Energy Management. I have basement air conditioner and when its running on 30A thats about all I can use at one time. Two small electric heaters and the coffee maker, or one heater, wife's hair dryer, and TV works okay. Don't worry about being on 30A, just be aware of electic draw, its easy to get used to using everything on 50A and forget when you get on 30A. Have fun.

Apparently there is something wrong with the basement air if it is poor as they usually will run you out.I would hope that the owner has kept the filter changed.lol The small one he bought for you to use may draw some power but you wull probably need the furnace more than air. Have a nice trip.

Evidently people didn't read where you said it had basement AC and no roof AC's. Most basement AC's have a dual compressor setup with a switch the allows you to run on 30 amps. Or the EMS will take care of it for you. At any rate, you shouldn't need 50A service in Maine that time of year.
