I went to Walmart to get oil and filter for our 2005 6.8l V-10 and they did not have the motorcraft brand so I bought one of the high buck Mobil M1 filters. I noticed that the filter gasket came in contact with the filter base after only two turns of the filter. After I tightened it I am guessing I only spun the filter approximately 3 turns which does not seem right to me. The part number of the filter is M1-210 but I am wondering if only three turns of the filter is O.K.
Any comments from the experts here?

It sounds like the rubber seal from the original oil filter stuck on the block. This is common. You may have two seals on there right now. Best to take it back off (or check the removed filter if you still have it) and make sure, it will eventually leak....

I always make sure the old gasket is not stuck on the filter base before installing the new filter.

Do you still have the old filter? A quick look at it will tell you if the old gasket might still be on the filter base.

If you have two gaskets on it then it won't leak eventually. It will pour immediately.

That does sound a bit strange. Every filter I've ever installed on anything always took 5 or more turns before it contacts the rubber gasket. After that point only tighten it another turn.

The Mobil 1 filter is a real good filter made by Champion, who also makes filters for aircraft. I'd be surprised if it were defective but anythings possible I guess.
