I use our combo washer/dryer and am glad we have it. If I were to ever purchase another DP, I would get the stackable unit even if it meant losing closet space. Sometimes I use the onsite facilities if we are only going to be there overnight, because the combo unit takes a long time to do 1 load.

Can't get into a CG because of the W/D????

That makes almost as much sense as the CG that turned us away because of our Collie, while we never had a problem with our Rottweiler.

Anyway, the W/D is the ONLY thing DW says she misses from our Beaver.

have neved been turned away or ever asked about w/d. IT is nice to have so you can keep up and not have dirty close taking up space.

I wouldn't fulltime without a w/d. We have a combo unit. Yes, it does take some time - so what. It isn't like I have to sit and watch the thing go round and round. Put a load of towels in last night as we went to bed. Took them out and hung them up this morning when I got up. I do a load every day and never have a problem. I hate schlepping to a laundry room. I know that no one has been dying something in my washer, etc.

As to not letting you in - we've been in a few campgrounds where the rules say we can't use the w/d. Usually I think it is to make sure that you use their facilities. One was a very prominent park in Eklhart and after I posted my disgust at their rule on another forum, it was changed because they didn't like the publicity.

Those are nice rigs you mentioned... good luck in your search!

May I offer a few hints:

Try to shop shop shop the dealers and walk through a lot of rigs, and take them for test drives etc. Keep notes of what you liked or didnt on each one, as they tend to run together after a while. But don't be pressured into buying until you are sure. And read these forums for the types of repairs that are usual with larger rigs and plan accordingly.

If you buy used, have an independant 3rd party go over it throughly for you! Offer a trusted mechanic a nice fee or find a reputable large truck service repair place to go over it for a set fee and write a report.

When finally dealing, get the dealer to put on new tires, new hoses, belts, batteries, and do all lube, oil and fluid changes and filters too. Start out with a fully serviced rig so you know what to expect.

(we once bought a gas rig that had 13 year old tires, we did not know how to *date* them! after 2 blowouts we had to put on all six new tires in the middle of a trip)

As for washer/dryer.. I LOVE mine! I hate laundromats and only use them for big things or a large load of jeans or jackets or heavy bedding. Our
Splendide WD combo only uses 5 gallons of water to wash, and 5 gallons of water to rinse. I can fit a lot of Tshirts, shorts and underware in a single load. I most often hang the clothes to dry on a rack in our bathtub area or outside on a rack or line if nice enough.

And last of all, read through many many posts on these forums and you will learn a LOT !

We take trips of several weeks or months but do not fulltime. We do not have a W/D and are OK without it. There is a spot for one and hoses back there but I really don't need one. We could put one in if we ever decided to though...I like the inside storage room that you get by not having one anyway. In my opinion those things take up a lot of good INSIDE storage room for what small loads of wash they can do.

I have never heard of a campground that does not allow W/D.

Newmar makes a very good coach. We are on our second one. They do a lot of things inside the coach and with construction of the box that many manufacturers do not to. You are buying at a very good time. Take your time and buy the right thing the first time. Look for a good value in a high quality used coach - that can save you many thousands of dollars over buying new.

Our longest trips are one month. We have plenty of unused storage. We use both the onboard and onsite W/D depending on circumstances. Onboard W/D is nice to have, not a must have.

Someone stated above that the W/D requires a full hookup. Not all do. Our present unit does not require any hookups, our last one did require at least a sewer connection. We have done 4 loads while dry camping without any hook ups. As stated above, they don't take all that long per load and they are fully automatic so you just turn them on and come back later when done.

One trade off to no washer and dryer is a nice full length clothes closet in most models. We thought the closet was more important, so no washer/dryer here.

And yes, the closet is full!

We thought the washer dryer combination was the cats meow when we ordered the coach. Now we think differently although it does get minimal use. Perhaps if we were full timing our opinion would be different.

Monaco, Beaver, Newmar....all great coaches. Make sure you perform due diligence and that all systems are operable prior to delivery.
