hi all, was just down in Cal.City this weekend. my mom handed me the latest Mojave desert news, in it was a story about the fee's that you all pay to use the OHV area. "so far the have collected $45,000 and that was from just the end of the riding season. some of the city council are trying to open up some new trails so you can get into some of the towns business. the first trail would be to the Cal. City Airport so you can eat at the diner there."Foxy's is the name, had dinner there friday night, was good.
so if you can, find out who is trying to help and give them some support. I'll try to find out from mom who it was. not sure if they have the news paper online or not.
Yeah,I paid ours last riding season when they had the trailer set up at Borax Bill's. I had no problem handing over the dough. As long as they spend the money on "PRO-RIDING" stuff, I'll keep paying every year. The way we keep losing public riding lands due to greenies and fires (i.e. Rowher Flats, Drinkwater Flats and now the Piutes), Cal City might be all thats left
The Roach's:Jim, Lisa, Jess, Megan, Buddy(boxer), Cujo(mutt), Bella (Pomeranian)and Dolly(Chihuahua).

I can understand your perspective, but I've had the opportunity to talk to some of the people volunteering their time to make this all happen.
They are regular folks that love to ride and don't want to see it disappear. When the state yanked back a substantial portion of the money Cal City was getting from the "Green Sticker Fund" they had to come up with another way to fund things like the Desert Incident Response Team (D.I.R.T) : http://ccpd.homestead.com/DIRT.html
And the upkeep on Borax Bills, the water station and dump station too.
If they can figure out a way to have Cal City proper benefit by way of additional revenue from off-road riders, then all the more power to them.
I think I'd rather be welcomed with open arms by the retailers and restuaranteurs than thought of as someone who just comes and tears up the desert and doesn't make a contribution to the economy of Cal City.
Take a look at what's going on over in Randsburg - they want to chase dirt bikers out because of the noise, dust, etc.
Besides, next time my daughter busts a clutch cable I'd rather ride my bike into town to get a replacement than unhitch and use my truck.
NEW UPDATE**************got this from Racedesert.com
This weekend, October 4, the OHV trail into California City (mid-town) opens for OHV users (buggies, sand rails, bikes, quads, pilots, UTVs). It's been years since we've been working on this and it's finally come to fruition.
WORDS OF WARNING: Stay on the marked trail, ride within the speed limits into the City (15 m.p.h.) and enjoy our City (portions for now-more later), while you visit us.
There's going to be a great parade starting at Borax Bill Park (just past the prison off 20 Mule Team Expressway), and ending up in town at the IMC Shopping Center. Everyone is invited. Here's what Wayne Nosala sent me: "Opening ride will start at 11:30 at Borax Bill Park and will enter the Business Center at 12:00 Noon. The trail is 11 Miles 1-way. The Business park will host a D.J. in the new OHV Parking Lot. OHV’s can now visit stores and restaurants at the center including: X-Spot BBQ, Wimpey’s Burgers, Quiznos, Coffee Company, and Rider’s Choice."
Needless to say, we will lose all this if just one person does not adhere to the simple rules and speed limits. Yes, if someone does not obey, there's a $150.00 first-time citation waiting for you.
Nonetheless, this is a great occasion for all OHVer and once we can prove that we deserve this trail, I can assure you that others will follow. But first we have to prove it to the City.
Thank you all in advance for coming to Cal City, enjoying our desert and giving our sport a very positive image.
I like the area's further out but I might have to make some trips to Cal city just to support their efforts. May not be the McCoy trails but its a start.
