I just bought a new Jayco G2, and right from the start we have had a really strong smell coming out of the toilet when we flush. We are permanent, and everyone out there tried to tell me that it was just the water, but when we had our old TT there was no smell at all, and if it was the water, it would smell in the shower and at all the sinks, but it dont. Its not a "poop" smell or anything like that, its more of a sower sp? smell. I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of it with no luck at all. I have used the wand, every kind of drop in packs..... Plus this past weekend, when I went to dump the black tank, it would still read 1/3 full. We have only used the trailer for 2 weekends now. Any suggestions??

Perhaps you can explain what a SOWER SP smell is. If you are implying a sewer or septic smell, make sure you are closing you dump valve, and you are dumping only when the the tank is full when you dump. I might be just sewer gas backing up thru the system. Bill

NO, its not a sewer smell, its hard to explain, its almost like rotten milk. I do make sure to keep the black tank shut, only opening it when I drain it.

A sour smell. OK,, well you might think this is off the wall, but try putting a can of pineapple juice down there and letting it sit for awhile. Like when your not going to be using it. I found this to helpfull when trying to get orders on new built in air condition coils that some ruthless construction has decided to use as urinal or place to dump something. Serious give it a shot and see what happens. Bill

Do you mean SOURED smell? I'd suggest filling the tank completely with water ( you may have to keep watch thru the toilet with a flashlight) adding some bleach ( ?? cup or so depending on size of tank) and letting it soak. Then dump and rinse.
Have you made sure the vent is not clogged?
You will get a plethoria of replies here. If they all fail, then think about taking up the toilet and turning it upside down on the lawn. You may be surprised at what will be inside where water normally doesn't reach!!!!
EDITED: Reread your post! It's new so take it back to the dealer and let them hunt for the smell.

I agree with a strong mix of bleach water and let it set for a few days. Take note if the smell is still present when the tank is filled with bleach water. If so, then it may not be the black tank.

The black tank vent isn't clogged is it? When you flush the toilet, do you have the fan in the bathroom running?

It may just be the epoxy glue used to hold the plastic pipes together, since its new. I would just use it as its planned and wait a few weeks.....it should flush and it will all be behind you.

Thanks everyone, it dont seem to matter if we have the fan running or not, the smell is still there. I was thinking of the bleach idea, but I thought I would pick some brains first. This may sound like a stupid question, but where is the vent for the black tank, and how do you check to see if it is blocked? Thanks again.
