Trying to decide if I would like remote start on my diesel truck (see signature)...would be nice during the winter and summer but as most of us know in the winter they should be idled only a few seconds and they warm up faster while driving...

Anyone else put remote start on their diesel and was it worth it???

I checked with the truck shop at my dealer and they said remote starters were not recommended since you should let your truck idle. From what I've been told and experienced, especially in the winter, a diesel idling isn't going to warm up idling. I may be incorrect. Mine warms up very quickly when I'm starting out in the morning. In the winter time, after starting, I do let it idle a few minutes before starting out to make sure all the engine parts are lubricated.

My diesel does warm up faster when it's moving but 5 or 10 min. at idle will warm it up and thats just in the winter,a/c already on before you get in is nice also in the summer.

My 2008 Chevy Silverado LTZ 3500 DRW, came with the auto start. I like because it puts heat or A/C on and when at Wally World by the time you get to the Truck its getting the temp going. If you get the LTZ package on the GM Truck it will have the Auto Start or it will be a option don't remember which. Good Luck. GBY....

I TOTALLY agree with this.

I have seen some NIGHTMARES with people who have installed these that don't know what they are doing. And they WILL void your warranty when you, (installer) fries the computer due to a bad installation.

We bought our Duramax used and it came with one. I love it. It freaks out the people next to you if you start it and they are getting in or our of their veh. Good source of intertainment sometimes.

My Viper alarm system has the remote start and the cool down function for the turbo. I like them both. I usually crank it and let it run for a minute or so in the winter before I get in and drive off. I think the cool down timer is set for 5 minutes.

Mine came with it and I love it. Not so much for heat in winter but A/C in the summer!!! Just that two or three minutes really helps.
Very nice option.
