Our Septembers here in the northwest are generally beautiful. Sunny days and later in the month the nights could/will start getting chilly, so have some warmer clothing.

As mentioned earlier, after Labor Day, you should have no problem getting into the coastal state parks, except for maybe weekends. Overall, you should have no problems.

Crater Lake is beautiful, but you may want to hit that early in Sept. I forgot where your taveling from, so that may add too many miles for you. Just watch the weather there, as you can get some snow in late Sept. or early Oct. at times. Shouldn't be a real problem unless a real storm front moves in.

Enjoy your trip

If you have time and are at Crater, you really should drop down to the Bend/Sisters area. Hard to beat for great things to see and do in an area--great volcanics, beautiful alpine country, great fishing, and more.

The coast has been covered here plenty including by me, but I would be remiss if I didn't tell you to visit Silver Falls SP if you have a chance. Eleven waterfalls in a beautiful, lush canyon. About 30 miles east of Salem.

As the ranger told us last September, "We here in Oregon don't stop camping at Labor Day." This was at the end of September when we had to leave on a Friday and could not find another state campground reservation anywhere. We did find a spot in a Fred Meyers parking lot. Make reservations if you plan to stay over a weekend. Oregon has the best state parks in the country.

Thank you all so much. I was feeling more relaxed about our no-reservations journey until the last posting, so we'll do what we can, as we can, for reservations. We're in the process of arranging the last minute details of our house sale on 8/14 in MA, vehicle registrations and insurance in our new SD "domicile" -- all while we're in UT.
To: summutt2002 -- You're hysterical! I've always felt that way about our home state of MA and all of New England. I didn't want to share our secrets. We had enough tourists! Also, we're in Utah -- south of SLC, so I'm wondering where you might be in the "mountains of Utah."

Please relax about the resevations. First, not all of the state parks even take reservations. Second, despite what some may say, the state parks do not completely fill up even on the weekends in September. Third, just remember that there are many, many nice private RV parks to choose from also. So relax and have fun!
