We camped at a State Park this weekend. Lovely spot under the trees, campgrounds nearly empty. Peaceful and wonderful.
Friday evening a Suburban pulling an enclosed trailer (not a travel trailer) pulled in down the road from us. Unloaded a tent, a dirt bike and a 4wheeler. There appeared to be 4 or 5 young people, early 20s. They set up their camp, built the fire to cook some supper. They did play music (that boom boom boom kind) but turned it off as soon as they had finished setting up their camp.
They did ride their bike and 4wheeler early - but when you tent camp, you gotta go to the outhouse somehow. Noise did not bother. They were gone most of the day - riding elswhere, I guess.
We saw them picking up litter, cleaning up after their dogs and dousing the the fire properly. We were not snooping, just noticed this activity when we went on our walks.
When we left yesterday, we stopped by their camp and told them how much we appreciated having good neighbors and how nice it was to see young people camping and having a good time. Their smiles and thank yous were a joy to see.

Memories are made of these...........Good times.

I was sure that this post was going to end badly! In my 30 years as a cop, I try not to pre-judge people, but sometimes you roll your eyes and assume the worse. So we all need to give 'em a chance to prove themselves, and that should be our matra! Nice ending! Be patient with new campers, too...as they simply just may not know any better. That's what we older (oops, I meant "more experienced!") campers and RVers are there for!

Me too, the minute I started reading the post and read who pulled in next to you, I just knew it wasn't going to be "pretty." "Wrong I was", so glad to hear the positive experience and the positive reinforcement you gave the your campers. Way to go! Also we're glad you had such a nice camping trip.

I would venture to say that these young people were brought up in a family that camped and were tought how to be courteous camping neighbors.
I see the other thread going on about campground ettiquet and I have concluded that many young people today are products of their enviroment and learned good and bad from parents or are bad people from not having parental supervision.

Thanks for posting that! There are lots of good people (young & "experienced") and sometimes all we hear about are the jerks.
