We are planning a trip to Montana in September and will focus on the western part of the state with emphasis on the Glacier National park areas.

We would greatly appreciate any suggestions for nicer campgrounds. Regards to all.

We'll be there around mid August and have made arrangements for St. Mary's KOA. Not sure how nice it is but generally KOA's are decent.

Thanks. Saw the St. Mary's KOA also and are likely to try as well. Happy travels!

St Mary's KOA is a good park, although a little expensive. View is good and they have all facilities. WIFI was weak, even in the office. Nice thing is it's on the east side of GNP, which gives easier access to Two Medicine and Many Glacier valleys, bot good day trips. Also, Waterton Lakes NP just over the border in Alberta is a good trip for beautiful scenery and ample wildlife. Bear in mind, it can snow there in Sept.

Be sure to do as many hikes as you can, my favorite being to Hidden Lake. Tons of sheep, goats and marmots along that trail.

Johnson's is a good alternative on the east side. It will be cheaper and is fine. If you can dry camp the park campgrounds are great. We like North American on the west side. PM me if you have any specific questions. We spend a lot of time at Glacier.

check out www.rvparkreviews.com. Most all of the rv parks around Glacier have been reviewed. That should help you with your decision.

I second the suggestion above about taking in Waterton while there. There is a border crossing just up from Glacier entrance that will take you into Waterton. There are campgrounds just outside the park entrance that are OK but nothing to write home about.

Personally I disliked the St. Mary's KOA and wouldn't stay there again. Location was nice, but the campground I felt was kinda nasty. But then again that's because I'd rather stay in the nicer, wooded national park campgrounds (preferably Apgar or Fish Creek on the west side or Rising Sun east). If you can get by without hookups, I'd do this in a heartbeat. Or if you stay on the west side, the West Glacier KOA is head and shoulders nicer than St. Mary's. Granted if I remember correctly the price was more too. But it should be for what they've put into it.

We plan to be on the west side of Glacier around the first week of Sept. Looking at Mountain Meadows RV Park in Hungry Horse.

We stayed at the West Glacier KOA and at Mountain Meadows. Next time I go back, we will stay at Mountain Meadows, what a beautiful campground if you like lots of trees. Koa is nice , but very open, however, has a pool if that is important to you.
