First-time camper owner is looking for something to carry in the camper to use for emergency leak repair (obviously, wouldn't be able to get the area dry before application) would eternabond be the thing to carry or something else?

According to their instruction link it is not designed for wet application but they do say they have had some success with it. You might want to read the link info to see if it is what you are looking for. That being said I don't know of anything else that would even come close.

My experience with eternabond is that you have one shot at sticking it in place and it is there forever. It would not have a 'temporary' to it.

Yeah - eternabond tape is not temporary. It is good to carry for roof, awning and tank repairs, but once it one its there to stay.

What sort of "emergency leak repair". If your roof or windows have a detectable leak, chances are that something has been going on for a long time before you noticed it. Much better to deal with regular preventive maintenance on this crucial issue.

For temporary all round leak repair I carry all purpose silicon caulk. It is cheap, easy to remove later, and can be applied with a finger.

This is not for a temporary fix. Eternabond is for a permanent fix.

I have used Eternabond on wet areas. If you first wipe the area off with alcohol it will disperse the water and better allow the Eternabond to stick. As others have already said once stuck it is not easy to remove.

GOOD STUFF!
But I can tell you from 1st hand experience that if the area isn't throughly dry Eternabond will NOT stick. I had a little area along the edge that was wet & didn't stick. I pulled the Eternabond away from the surfice, left it dry and then was able press it down & it stuck.
I also used it around a skylight and I'll have to remove it someday to replace the skylight. I'm not looking forward for that day.
