My trailer is just over 2 years old and I want to check and possibly replace the bearings, races, seals etc. on the two axles.

Who made the axles? Where could I get parts, other than from WW?

I'll also be checking the brakes and would appreciate info on those as well.

Thank you!

Should be steel band wrapped around the axle on the curb side near the u-bolts -it has a wide spot that has the manufacturers name and model number stamped into it. Otherwise the other fool proof id method involves pulling apart one wheel end.....

Axles are probably Alko Kober brand.....

Any good parts store,(Napa) should be able to cross the numbers for the bearings and seals. BTW you can fully grease your bearings by jacking up and pumping grease into the zerk on the end of the axle. (spin the wheel and watch for the dirty grease to come out of the wheel nut) I have done this and then taken the hub apart it had fresh grease from the inside out.

Thanks for the replies.

My concern with greasing in that manner would be possibly damaging the seals. Is that a valid concern?

I feel it is a valid concern, I had damaged seals with very low miles, some one pumped the heck out of them at some point, what a mess.

Probably so if someone had just pumped it full with the trailer on the ground. Take the weight off pump and spin the wheel at the same time and it works its way out. No problem here.

Like Mapguy said, chances are the axle was made by Alko aka Hayes. The have a plant in Ontario, CA. Most local RV places will have the bearing required. Depending on the size of your axle, most likely a 3500lb, your bearing combo will be inner 68149, outer 44649, I think. I would refrain from using the zerk fitting. A buddy of mine pumped his up and blew a seal, which lead to replacing an axle. The best way to pack your bearing, is taking the time to pull it all apart(or having someone do it.) Another thing you might check out while you have it all pulled apart is lubing the backing plate with some silicon grease.
Hope it helps.
