I recently took my F550 7.3l into a local Ford dealer for an oil and filter change for which I had a coupon for $69.95, which thought wasn't too bad. As a new business add on, they do a 'free' vehicle check. They said I needed two new wiper blades for $24.00 plus labor and they also said I need a transmission flush and refill at a cost of $169.00! The truck has 58k miles and has had fluid changes but I am sure that a flush is really not necessary. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject. I am stuck with fluid changes, I can't do them in the park I am in. Only allowed to jump start or change a flat tire.

Do much towing? Got any trailer weight? Check your owners manual, will probably suggest that a transmission flush be done at the 50K mark. And your truck is in the 7-8 year old category?

I'd get a flush, BUT NOT at the shop you noted here. Should be right about $100.

Check your service maintenance manual on the tranny flush. Mine is a Ford and says 30,000 mile intervals for a fluid change.

That's the same price I paid for my flush and it included 17 quarts of Mercon.

I'm a believer that towing is tougher on a transmission than any other component.

I have an '03 Chevy Tahoe and have had my transmission fluid changed twice already. I only have 57,000 miles on it.

The cost of service is much cheaper than the cost of repair. However, I keep a record of when service is done and if I stop at a Chevy dealer far from home, I can say that whatever they recommend has already been done and show them the record or will be done again when I get home.

In todays computer era, using a dealership can be helpfull as your service/recall items will be available to all the dealers.
