We've got a small camper with jalousie windows. Is it OK to leave a couple of them open just a tiny bit for air circulation while we are actually driving it down the road? It was remodelled before we got it and there is no roof vent to leave open. I'm just wondering if it would damage the windows somehow if we left them open. Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

Sliding windows are ok, as long as you don't stop quick and break from from sliding closed or open too quickly. The Jalouise type have been known to wiggle loose and fallout. If you did have a roof vent, you could get a MaxxAir or TurboMax dome for your roof vent, and you'll be able to keep it open all the time for ventilation. Also, never leave a window that is an emergency escape window unlatched while moving! You may consider installing a roof vent..I can't live without them!

I guess the answer is a question or two: Is it OK for your T to smell like exhaust? Is it OK if the interior is covered with whatever road dust & dirt is flying? Is it OK if it rains and water gets inside? I'm not suggesting will, but it sure could.

Leaving even protected roof vents open won't keep it "cool" if it's HOT outside, but that IS what most of us do. You're better off to ventilate when you stop.

OK, thanks so much for the answers. I'll keep the windows shut until we arrive at our campground.

I agree with NOT pulling with windows open. Aerodynamics play into the equation heavily. If windows/vents open caused POSITIVE pressure in the rig, maybe okay. But if negative you are sucking all that gunk into your trailer. I know of no good way to measure it. Can also effect holding tank venting (like to the inside - yukkk!).

So I close it up pretty tight going down the road and open everything up and turn on the vent fan after we get there.

Cracked is ok, but I would open them wide. I don't know about all these exhaust "fumes" and road dust.

Maybe if you left the windows WIDE open and drove down a country dirt road, but we never had those problems towing out old TT with windows cracked a bit for ventilation.

We used to keep the roof vents open a 1/2 inch also.

Driving with them open works for us in the MH but we keep the crank outs closed when moving because they stick out.

TT's that have ballooning of rubber roof issues can be addressed by leaving open a window so the air that gets in through the nose, etc does not get trapped.

I expect you will jack knife the trailer or have been in a serious accident if you stop fast enough to break a window by it closing too fast.

Tried it once with our TT, then had to clean everything to get dirt off, never again. Can't even imagine what rain would do.
