I'd install output jacks in a storage compartment and plug the speakers in when needed. The speakers can be on cords which allows them to be used where needed. They could be stowed easily anywhere. You can buy speakers w/ enclosures including outdoor speakers, or build wooden enclosures for automotive speakers.

If you are thinking of running wire and cutting into the shell of your camper to mount the speakers, your speaker choice will be limited to the depth of the wall framing.

I'm looking to replace my exterior speakers with something of better quality but am limited by the depth of the speaker I can put there. Most waterproof speakers are junk and I'm not sure I am ready to spend $225 on a pair of bose waterproof speakers just yet.

You can always run some wiring into your storage compartments and then when you setup camp, run it to some of the outdoor speakers that look like rocks. Place one of the rocks at each end of your trailer and face them towards your dedicated listening area.

On the 4th there were two large motor homes come in and parked facing each other. One had a large HD TV and speaker system in the outside locker. The kids glued themselves to the TV part time and them wandered off...music videos still blaring. About 10 PM they were back in front of the TV with music still blaring. Owners were off to another rig having another party. At 11 PM, I went over and told the kids to turn it way down. Also spoke to the owners and they were not even aware that the sound was carrying so far.

The point is that outside speakers can be installed and used wisely, but you do have to remember that in an RV, others are living in close proximity. Be thoughtful of your neighbors. We do not all appreciate tha same music that you like.

The best bet is to use speaker jacks and wire in the speakers to use as you need and move them in out of the weather. Bose makes mice speakers, but a bit on the $$$$ side.

We made the brave step and cut into the trailer and mounted outside speakers.

First off, you need to check where you want to place your speakers & make sure there aren't any wires running behind. I would suggest you contact your manufacturer to find out where they run the wiring just to be safe.

Our stereo is on the far wall, so we ran wiring behind and down through cupboards, then out and under the trailer and up again through the cupboards. Turned out to be much easier than we thought.

As for the cuts- our trailer is fiberglass, so, we got a hole saw kit from Harbor Freight (about $3.00) and made 5" cuts. Installed Marine speakers, sealed everything REALLY GOOD and then we were done (only took about a 1/2 hour).

One of the best mods we've done! We've since made other cuts into the trailer: installed additional outside lighting, an outside shower and will soon be installing an outside access door to some hidden storage in the bathroom.

Being California beach campers,(SP) we experience loud music from most every neighbor, most every trip - it is rarely quiet. We've never had a problem... We, and most others respect the 10:00 quiet time.

After reading several topics regarding the use and installation of outside speakers and some of the responses, I have decided to install some on my TT. If you are going to tie into the factory installed unit, they tend to have low watt output. You will probably want to install a fader or speaker switch so you can switch from outside to inside. You will notice a drop in sound quality if you try to use all the speakers at once.Check the wattage output and you can probably use a cheap set of marine grade speakers. Some people will drill holes and mount speakers on the outside. I am going to install connections to install portable box style speakers so I can direct the sound where I want it. Hope this helps. I need to install a 200 watt amp so I can install 2 sub woofers and 2 full range speakers. I need to be able to crank the sound up so I can drown out the sound of my Chinese Generator....

I have a pair of Radio Shack speakers that I got cheap at a garage sale. On the rare occasion that I use them I normally just set them on the ground just under the trailer on the curb side. That way they don't get wet overnight and no one ever steps on them.

The cables are about 25 feet long, so I have a lot of choices as to where I place them. I added a set of jacks behind the fridge that I can access by removing the outside access panel.

The cool thing to do is get the outside speakers set up and then get a small projector with a screen hanging from the awning and its movie time!!

All this negative response about the outside speakers. I wouldn't install them just get a good amp were you can crank it up and hear it outside. HA I have been wanting to add to mine also but I planned on building a box and having it were I can plug into or leave it in the access compartment. That way it will be portable. Mike
