How hot should the wheels get while towing? Sometimes my TT wheels get extremely hot; to the point of not being able to touch them for more than a second.
It's around the lug nuts and a few inches outward.
Just put Maxxis tires on and don't think I'm overloaded weight wise.
Is this normal?

Heat on the center of the wheel could be bad wheel bearings.

Sounds like you might want to check them out. If all the wheels are getting hot like that, it could be a brake problem. Are you sure your control is set up right. You shouldn't be that hot unless you have been braking a lot. Like driving the Skyline. Do you smell anything like brakes. JM2Cents Bill

A lot of heavy braking will produce a lot of heat.

No heat on my tires--even when driving through Mojave desert at 107 degree temps. I drive with the flow of traffic (65+) and I swapped out my Marathon ST tires (LRC) for WranglerHT LT tires (LRD) earlier this year.

I do recall getting heat from the Marathons...but nothing from the WranglerHTs.

Bearings are fine and also greased well. The TT is a 2006 with probably only 4000 miles on it.
Could it be caused by lug nuts that may be torqued too tight?
Also, could it be the brake controller set too aggressively? I feel like the TT brakes bite too hard when applying the brakes, but when adjusting them on a flat level surface with the hand control, they seem to be set where they need to be?
How much should you feel the TT brakes inside the TV? Right now, when applied there is a distinct "bite" but they don't seem or appear to be locking up.

Sounds like they may be too tight. I know there is a fine line with my adjustment where I don't feel the "bite", but do feel the trailer grab just before the truck, it feels really smooth, sort of like a drag on the truck then the truck joining in.

checked mine on a recent trip across the desert towing 9500# 5th wheel , outside temp. was over 100, my tires, michelin xp ribs, got as high as 140 deg. had no problems. Using an infra red gun to check, my buddies were about the same.

Not being able to touch them for more than a second is purely subjective. What may be hot to someone may not be that hot to someone else. Before taking any drastic action purchase a cheap infrared thermometer and find out what you are dealing with.
