There is a god reason why many on this board are not leaving early for Mexico. Although the rules vary slightly from Province to Province a Canadian cannot be covered under our not so great medical system if he or she is out of their home province for more than 180 days. This includes being in another province in Canada. Example: You are in Mexico/USA from January to March ( 3 months) then return to Canada and visit your family in another province for 1 month then depart in October for Mexico/USA. You have now been out of province for 7 months and technically are not covered. Returning to your home province does not reset the clock. I think BC and Ontario are a little more lenient but the others are not. There may also be a waiting period to get back into the system. This is why there are very few Canadian full timers. One great system!!!!!

We are full timers who have moved from BC to Ontario, partly because it has more time allowance for travel. To quote the
Canadian Travellers Report Card
http://www.snowbirds.org/csa_content.php?content=pu
"Ontarians can keep their health benefits and be out of the province for up to 212 days (approximately seven months) in any 12-month period."
Only residents of Yukon and Nunavut have no minimum residency requirement.

We are leaving Ontario at the end of September, crossing at Los Indios (near Brownsville) and going to scoot down to Paamul in the Yucatan by mid-October. This is early for us, but we have lined up a builder to get started on our palapa before it gets busy. Just hope the storm season is over by then.
Usually we take our time -- last year we stopped for a week in Texas and two weeks in San Miguel for spanish classes and to celebrate The Day of The Dead (Oct 31).

This year instead of reading about all of your travels we will be joining you. Leaving Ontario as of end of September for a family visit to Alberta, then down the west coast. We are thinking the west coast of Mexico as well. We are not noted for planning too well or following our plans, could wind up checking out the ruins. Either way, we are getting excited!!

This is the only way to travel Mexico. Our "plans" are very fluid as well. One day you park beside someone who has been to ____ and liked it so you go and see it. We did this all winter and really enjoyed it.
I have made a list of places I want to see, mainly by reading this and another Forum, and will slowly start checking them off one at a time over the next couple of years.
You will enjoy Mexico. It is the only place I have been to where just about everybody smiles at you on the street! Smile, say "Hola" a lot and talk to Mexicans. They are a wonderful people and define the term "Salt of the earth".

If my December surgery goes well, we will probably cross at Pharr, TX around the middle of January and either turn west or head south. That's about the closest we get to planning ahead.

Let's see? Right now will enter Mexico somewhere between Mexicali and Douglas and sometime between Oct 24th and Nov 15th. Will let you know better when time gets closer. Line of sight planning has always been my best suit! Would like to be in SMA for Day of the Dead, but---.
