How did your wife go from 35 to 45% at 65?

I had a question that was posted but then deleted by the moderators, I guess. Why are people, who have never contributed to the system, eligible for Medicare? Does the non-working spouse's percentage and the worker's percentage just add up to 100% or does the worker get 100% and the non-working spouse get a percentage in addition to that?

My wife went from 35% to 45% based on her 41 quarters, and my income. When she called SS a month before her 65th, they told her she would get the increase, less the MEDICARE prem.. Guess it was true, because her SS check the first of August showed the increase, less Medicare.

Does anybody know how a medical retirement works? I recently got a medical retirement, I am 60 years old. Would my benefits change later on when I reach actual retirement age?

If you're talking about disability, your benefits will not increase when you reach regular retirement age but they will no longer be called 'disability'; they will just be called regular Social Security.

One thing has changed in the past few years, SS checks are deposited now on the wed before your birthday of the month. In the past they were sent the first of the month, not anymore. So plan your expenses predicated on the week you receive the funds. And they are never late. LOL>

FIL's Birthday is 4/23. Direct deposited on the 3rd of every month. Could the day of the month be based on the last digit of his birthday?
