I just purchased my first camp vehicle. A 2007 Montana Big Sky. The dealer has suggested that I purchase an extended warranty for $2400. Through "First Extended Service corporation". As I read the exclusions I wonder if it is worth the expense. Does anybody have any experience with this company, or offer any input as to the true value of such a policy?

Negotiate the price 1st of all if you are interested in it...should be able to get 50% off of it I would think...2ndly...make sure it is an exclusionary policy...It may or may not ever come into play...but for me it did and I am to the good with 5 years left...and I hope I don't have to use it again...

That is like giving them a $2400.00 tip! Keep your money in your pocket, turn around and run.

The dealer makes 50% on the sale of a service contract.
I was in the RV service business for close to 30 years so I do all of my own work BUT I did purchase the service contracts for the Dometic Roof air and the Dometic refer.
Why? Because even at my wholesale cost, it was worth the extra money to extend my warranty another three years and not have to worry about a cooling unit or compressor failure. For less than $200.00, I now have extended my warranties on these two units untill August of 2012.
Pretty cheap when you consider a new roof-air costs around $700.00 and a cooling unit around $1000.00.
You should have paperwork in your packet from the manufacturers for the service contracts.
I also purchased extended service contrats for my two Yamaha generators directly from Yamaha which, when my 2400 failed, has paid for itself already with a $700.00 covered repair. I would NEVER go through a after-market warranty company.
Also, another word on warranty companies.......
I have personally been involved as the advocate for my customers when dealing with repairs under these extended warranties. I can't remember the amount of times that the warranty companies denied coverage and left me to deal with the unhappy customer.
Also, quite a few times I had called for authorization only to find a disconnected phone number. This is a very unstable part of this industry.

I just purchased a Continued Service Plan with Good Sam. I know, there are quite a few who don't like GS for many reasons, but the price was good on my 5 year old unit, and I know they'll be around probably longer than me. Give them a call for a quote.
Let me suggest that before you make up your mind, consider reading the explaination which was published in Escapees Magazine. It should explain a great deal that will be helpful in the investigation and decision.
Consider this, what you are looking at is a health insurance policy for the RV. Like most insurance policies, they don't usually save your money unless you have bad luck and have major repairs. But they do protect you from a major financial disaster if your luck should be bad.
If you always have enough cash in your account to pay for even the most expensive repair, then it would be foolish to buy such a policy. But if the failure of a major appliance will mean that you don't have the ability to use the RV, then you should probably get the coverage.
And if you are one who lays awake nights to worry about major problems, and if insurance to cover them would mean that you sleep better and enjoy the RV more, that is another reason to buy one.
