Looking for campgrounds with electrical hookups (sewer not necessary) on the beach or on a lake, anywhere relatively close to the Atlantic Coast, from Maine to South Carolina.

Reason: We have a small dog and want a place where we can leave him in our trailer with the AC going, close enough to the water so we can swim, but walk back quickly to check on him.

Thanks for helping.

In Belfast Maine there is The Moorings. On the Cape, (Sagamore)there is Scusset Beach State park. In NC there is Holiday Trav-L-Park in Emerald Isle. And in SC there are so many that it is impossilbe to name them all!!!

In SC, Hunting Island SP outside of Beaufort is very beautiful/sub-tropical and very secluded. A little further north is Edisto Beach SP another nice beach park in an area that is fairly undeveloped. Huntington Beach SP is in Murrell's Inlet. It is closer to the busy grandstrand but still in a fairly undeveloped area. It has some sites w/FHU. In Myrtle Beach you have Myrtle Beach SP. The park is on the beach, but the sites are a hefty walk from the beach. Also in MB there are several ocean front private CG's: Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, and Pirateland (on the south end) and MB Travel Resort (on the north end). These private CG's are all pretty similar with lots of amenities. Hope this helps.

NC Outbanks, most notably Cape Hatteras National Seashore has several places that will fill the bill, I recommend Ocean Waves Campground as it cost about HALF what the others around it cost, nice little campground too!!

York Beach, Maine has Eatons CG right on the water but if you're going to swim there, your better people then I am, even in the heat of the summer, Maine water is too cold for me, and I grew up there.

I'll second Hunting Island SP - it seems to be a prerequisite that you MUST bring a dog to camp there. They are everywhere! You can take the dog to the beach, but it must be on a leash (6' max). If you walk "up the river", you might be able to let the dog run a bit as long as Ranger Jimmy isn't out riding his 4-wheeler.

In Wells ME there is a beach that you can take your dog to. It's on the bay not ocean but the dogs have a great time.

Delaware Seashore State Park, (click here) just above the MD state line, has sites on the shore.

Point Lookout State Park (click here) in Maryland has a full hookup pet loop and a dog beach on the CHesapeake Bay/Potomac River junction. Take Fido down to the water with you.

Camp Hatteras RV Park (click here) on the Outer Banks in Waves, NC is on the beach and we took our old beagle (gone, but not forgotten) on the beach with us.
