If you happen to be in an area of freezing winters give some serious thought to how you will winterize the filter. You do NOT want to fill the cannister with anti-freeze (did that on previous rig....cannister cracked wide open...dealer said I had "cheap" anti-freeze...would not replace it...factory stepped up and did replace it). A simple bypass line with valve should allow filter removal for winter.

I have a 2004 Wildcat by Forest River. It has a filter system in the basement. Last month while in Gulf Shores the clear cannister broke right off at the threads. Drove 20+ miles to CW and was told to go to another rv supply store. To make a long story short ended up @ Lowes(5 miles from campground. They had the same exact filter set-up. All I did was unscrew the broken cannister and screw the new one on. I had a blue filter from CW which was well worth its $30.00 price tag. Never had a problem w/taste or particles. The new one came with a cheapo paper filter and can't wait to go back to CW and get the good one. Has anyone ever had the clear plastic housing/cannister break as mine did? Guess it may be these fine Louisiana highways I travel.............Steve A. Dagro

I run one of those cheapie blue filters for removing sediment in case there is any. Then the filter is screwed to a portable water softener to protect everything inside the 5th wheel. You never know when you will be camping in hard water areas.

Has anyone tried to install a water softener unit in their RV for hard water areas? Have a ceramic filter on the faucet and then run into a pitcher with another filter but have to clean the pitcher top tank out every other week due to the hard water. Filters replaced once a month.

yep, my BIL has one like camping world sells.
he uses it so I guess he must think it works.

I stopped by PepBoys today and they were clearing out a pitcher style filter system, originally $49.95 on sale for $4.00.
