I've been running 70psi in the front and 75psi in the back on my dually. According to the inflation tables that gives me about a 10% margin of safety for my scale weight on each axle.

Rotated the tires last week and found what appeared to be a rub ring between the dually tires on the passenger side. I've bumped the rears up to 80psi now.

I think the problem may have been unequal loads between driver and passenger side. The passenger side is about 1/2" lower at the rear. I've weighed the front and rear axles but haven't weighed each side of each axle.

I do not know your load numbers but I would stay with the max air in the rear.

I haul about 4,500lbs of cargo (LIQUID) in the back of my Dodge 1 ton dually and I do max out the air at 80psi (COLD).

Just 5 psi less than max and my tires run too soft, and then I have heat build up.

How are the front tires doing?

Probably a stupid question, but are the tires the recommended size by the mfg? Any wider tread sizes can cause what you are experiencing.

I agree with CTD your rear tires or rims are too wide, or the spacing off set of the rims are not correct.

You may have a point (CTD) & (sljkanas).

I would like to know his weight.

If he is way over loaded and not at max air he can get the same result by having low tire pressure with the correct tire and rim size.

I guess we need more info.

Unless you are grossly overloaded, which I don't think you are based on your camper listed in your profile, then it would appear your tires and/or wheels are the wrong size as running 5lbs below max shouldn't allow enough sidewall bulge to let the tires touch.

Be aware that the tires touching while in use can quickly result in a blow out from heat build up.

My tires were incredibly close when I bought the truck and the tires were oversized 235/85-16. I replaced them with the factory specified 225/75-16 and I have a ton of space between them now.

The tires are OEM. Fully loaded I'm at 12,500lb. Thats 1100lb over GVWR. Empty I'm 8,000lb.

The front tires look fine.

I may be misinterpreting the polished facing circles on the inside of the passenger side duallies, but don't know what else could be causing this. Rotated the tires at 5000 miles, saw no problem, just did the second rotation at 10000 miles and saw the circles.

Well weigh each side of the rear separately. Perhaps you are carrying appreciably more weight on one side as compared to the other.

You did mention that side of the truck sat lower didn't you.

You could also double and triple check that one of the tires isn't actually low since it is only doing it on one side and all of the other tires seem fine.

I failed to mention that I also went from 'D' rated tires to 'E' rated tires which would have affect the squish factor on my tires.
