We will be traveling in late August from Massachusetts to Lake Erie in Ohio. As this is our first trip further than 50 miles we want to take our time and stop early in the day. I would appreciate any recommendations anyone has for camping along this area (New York - PA - OH)without having to travel too far from the highway. This will probably also be our first experience with dry camping.
Thanks for your help.

You can find names/numbers and websites of campgrounds along your route: www.rvparkfinder.net
I suggest looking at that site, then going to www.rvparkreviews.com for the more up to date information and reviews from folks who've stayed there.
I believe you might be able to get similiar info from the GoodSam website.

You mentioned dry camping, are you looking for campgrounds or places to pull over like Wallmarts. Bill

Hi Bill:
Preferably reasonable campgrounds but may have to find something like Walmart in a pinch.

There are service plazas all along I-90. We've spent the night in many of them with no problems, and it's quite a money saver. We really hate to pay for a campsite when it's just for sleep.

I don't know how far you plan to travel each day, and where your starting point is. I will say Exit 9 on Int 90, considered the Albany by pass, have two places that a lot of folks seem to use.
If you go left there is a Walmart's and shopping center. If you go Right there is a Cracker Barrel. I will say Cracker Barrels in general have RV parking in the Rear. But find the later you get there the better it is since they all close at Nine, and RV's for the most part are welcome. Bill

Just a suggestion but if you go to the passport america website and click on campgrounds then click on the state your looking at traveling through you might find what you are looking for there. It will tell you about each campground as well as directions to it from most major highways. You DONT have to join to view what they have on their website but because we belong to this club we save on all our camping during the year.
Happy Traveling and Enjoy your trip.

Like AP said, you can stay overnight in the service plazas, just be sure to park where the cars park but out in back of car lot. If looking for regular CG's, can't help you out much from Alb to Utica, but after that, Turning Stone (exit 33) in Verona-40 bucks for week night. Another one west of Syracuse near Weedsport area (cannot remember the name of it). Out by the NY/PA line is Westfield KOA, backs up to the T-way, but about 1-2 miles from exit.
Hope this helps you out.
