Today about noon, I was sitting alone in our truck at Sam's Club with the engine idling, window's up, and the a/c on. I noticed in my rearview mirrors two men walking perpendicular behind my truck who were obviously very interested in our truck. I lost sight of them as they continued on through the parking lot toward's the building entrance. A few minutes later however, I noticed these same two gentlemen walking towards me from head on. When both men got to within 20 feet or so of the driver's side front of our truck, one of the men motioned to me as though he wanted to speak to me while the other man then started towards the passenger side of the truck. I put my driver's window halfway down. The man continuing towards my drivers side window stated they were wanting directions. I told them, "Both of you stop right there, don't come any closer to the truck, what are you looking for and I'll help you if I can." Both men however still continued towards me not saying anything else. I quickly told them again to, "Stop right there, I'm armed". Both men immediately did an about face and walked quickly towards a car I then noticed parked several spaces away and ahead of me with another male already in the drivers seat. Both men got in the car and all 3 men then drove off. I called 911, told the dispatcher what happened, gave a description of the men, the car, and the direction in which the car drove away. Later this afternoon, I received a call back from the police department. The police had located the car with the 3 men a short time later after my 911 call. All 3 men were arrested for an attempted car jacking several miles away from Sam's earlier this morning.

Point being folks: Regardless if it's day or night, car or truck, when you're exposed, pay serious attention to who's around you and what's going on around you. Don't be meak; take control of a situation. Your dilligence and implied authority may save your life and the live's of those with you. Keep yourself aware, the door's locked and the window's up when the situation warrant's.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

I am glad that you were not injured.

I always told my kids pay attention to your surroundings. If something doesn't feel right, it isn't.

So glad you were aware of what is going on around you. By calling 911 and reporting what had almost happened you may have saved someone else some terrible fate. Good for you.

I try to make a habit of not trusting anyone who is out walking around my truck in a parking lot, especially if they approach like they are up to something. When I see someone, window goes up and doors get locked. I'm pretty sure I would have no problem running them over either.

My kids are always giving me a hard time about locking myself in my house when I am home alone. I just tell them that if someone is going to try a home invasion, I am not going to make it easy for them. I don't even open the door for people I don't know, I talk to them through the window near the door.

Good job and don't forget the other 7 important words, should they ever be needed, "I was in fear for my life". This stops, or at least changes the direction, of any ensuing investigation.

Good for you!

While I was in OKC I went into the store next to the motel. I had been in a few times before and the young man working always had some thing nice to say to me. While I was paying for my items, I heard the door open, right away the bullet proof glass come down He told to me not look around but to get in my truck, lock the doors and leave.

The next day I ask him what was up....he just said "Don't go there". OK, but it still scared the day lights out of me.

Outstanding job Don & Nita! The biggest part of personal survival is the ability to identify a threat and then make a reasonable and fast decision on what happens next. Some have it, some don't.

A+

Had a situation in my 20’s that made me realize the buck stops here!

Stop right there, if I run over you with this truck, you will stay run over.

Good work, a righteous bust.
