We have reservations for the North Rim at the Grand Canyon in September. We have never done boondocking, and would greatly appreciate knowing when/where not to run the generator so that we do not disturb any one by noise or exhaust. Thank you!

calling the park is good advise. Generators and other noisy things are usually shut down between 10Pm and 7 AM

I usually try to run mine some time durning the day, usually early afternoon. IF PEOPLE ARE SETTING OUTSIDE in the evening I NEVER run mine.

I believe that people are camping to enjoy the out doors, and are outside for the peace and quiet,

Don't know about Grand Canyon but in Big Bend Nat'l Park the quiet hours are from 8pm to 8am.

I think the loudness of the generator is more important than the time of day or hours it is run. I have had some next to me so quiet that I could just hear them and have had others that run the construction type generators so loud that you could hear them a block away.
It is a matter of common sense. If it is loud to you then it is loud to your fellow campers.

There are NO standardized rules for generator use whether it's national parks, state parks, private campgrounds or RV Parking lots. The ONLY correct answer to your question is to call the management of the park where you're staying and ask what their generator policy is. Some national parks have generator hours of as little as 4 hours a day, some split those hours up to a few in the morning and a few in the evening, some don't allow generators at ALL and others have more lenient hours such as 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and JUST A FEW have no generator regulations at all and you can use them 24 hours a day.

Thanks for all the replies and guidance. We certainly do not want to be bad neighbors, as we really enjoy peace and quiet ourselves. This is the reason for our question.

Best to all.

The real answer is: Quiet hours at the North Rim are between 10pm and 6am. GENERATOR HOURS are: 7am to 9am and 6pm to 8pm.

We were there in May.
