We'd like to get into a new or late model Winnebago/Itasca not longer than 30 feet. They have a 29' Class C and a 30' Class A that have essentially the same "house" layout and we like it. The powertrains and chassis aren't the same but they're both Ford V10 with TorqShift etc.
We drove both and the drive seems about the same. The A has better view both driving and parked. But it offers less repair shop options and much more expensive maintenance items like tires.
Has anybody debated this issue and which side did you land on? How did you decide? Thanks!
God Bless, jd

Yes, it's been debated MANY times. If you do a search, you will find PLENTY of reading.

We decided on the 29B and have been happy with it. We have the entertainment center in the cab over and I took out the couch and put in two lazy boy rocker recliners.

We went from a 30' C to a 30' A with basically the same floor plan. (Aren't they all basically the same?)
At first we missed the front doors access the class C offers but now we're past that.
The A has about twice the basement storage, more cargo carrying capacity weight-wise, almost double the fresh water and waste capacity (with heated tanks) and the front driver/passenger area is now living space when we're parked.
We wouldn't go back.

I would guess the Class A has a lot more storage also. and you are not cramped into a pickup/van type front end seat while driving.

We did the opposite, went from a class A to a C with 2 slides. Main reason was to get the bed over the cab for grandkids but if you don't need the extra sleeping capacity I'd prob go for the class A. You have fewer weight restrictions that way, most of the C's on the V10 chassis max out at a bit over 14,000 lbs which makes it too easy to overload.

Personally, I'd choose the class A. After having my C for a year or so I ran across an A with the same floorplan. That view out the front and the openness of the driver area plus how it makes the living space larger just floored me.

I decided on a C. I'm most concerned about safety and with an A, there is nothing between you and oncoming traffic but the windshield. Lots of other reasons I'm going with a C, but that was the clincher.

We just rented a Class C to see if we liked it. The only problem I had was when coming off an exit ramp at an angle, I could not always see on coming traffic because the "House" stuck out. It was only a problem when I was driving alone without a passanger to check out the opposite window(see my other post regarding Class C blind spot). The Class C we had was 30' and we liked the floor plan. We made a list of features were liked and disliked, so when we make our final decision between an A or C we will hopefully get an RV that fits our needs. Next week I am going to see a Class C that has front seats that swival like they do in a class A. We have checked out other Class C with swival seats, but they were too small for our needs. Will let you know if we go with an A or C.
See you on the road!
