A few of you may have read my previous posts on our aqua-hot failure. It started to leak from the overflow.eventually all the glycol was gone, replaced with water. The fresh water pump would kick in about every 5 seconds for a split second.I contacted Aqua-hot & was told that it had gotten froze & the fresh water loop inside the glycol tank split. The only repair was to replace the whole unit.I wasn't too happy with that scenario so I pulled out the unit.I took it apart & cut open the tank.I found that the fresh water loop was rubbing against the engine anti-freeze preheat loop & wore a hole thru the fresh line,a definate design flaw.Aqua-hot did nothing as warranty is off.My son in law ,who is a industrial air conditioner tech brazed the lines with high temp silver solder.I then pressure tested those lines.I then got the whole tank welded back up & tested it as well.Back together & back in the coach, everything works as it should.Total cost including the new glycol was under $500.00.This was not a dificult project,no harder than pulling a motor out of car.Anyone with this same issue, contact me,I would be glad to help.

Fantastic post. This will help others in that position from having to purchase a very costly new unit. Thank you for taking the time to post this fix.

Sounds like your story proves the old maxim:
"You don't have to be rich to own a motorhome.
And you don't have to be mechanically-inclined to own a motorhome.
But, you doggone well have to be one or the other!"

Good Point.

Also good info on the Hydro-Hot, it's really not that difficult to work on.

Good info,

Great fix! Thanks for posting... Below is a quote from your previous post. Could you share what you did to prevent the problem from happening in the future?

Also what psi cap does your unit have?

Thanks JohnnyT

I have taken the unit out & tore it down.I got the tank cut open this morning & you won't believe what I found. The coils inside are rubbing together because there is nothing holding them appart,ie bracing of somekind,The fresh water coil has rubbed thru on the antifreeze coil from the engine. Its funny because the first time I contacted Aqua-hot on this, the guy on the other end of the phone said the "only way it can leak is it froze."period!! This is definately a design flaw.I will let you know how I make out.Curtis

Hi JohnnyT,I put a piece of hose around the lines where they contacted each other.I am sure this will last for years now.I have a 7lb cap but have noticed others with 13 lb caps,I wonder why the difference.
