He Ruide,

Is there any place we can go to donate blood in your name? Are there any hospitals that are affiliated with MD Anderson? My DH and I donate blood locally and have done so for friends in the hospital and we would love to donate in your name.

How do people become stem cell donors?

Mark,

Thanks for the words of support.

Sue,

Thanks for offering and let me check and see how the system works regarding blood donation. I know the stem cell donation is a bit more complicated. I'll get the definitive answer from MD Anderson, but others have told me that it actually cost $300 to become a donor. I also know that the total time (tests, giving samples, physicals and the harvest of the stem cells) is a 40 hour effort. I know in my case it took me 5 days (6 or more hours each day) to harvest my stem cells. On the other hand I met someone on Monday and he gave twice the number of cells they needed in one sitting. Anyway, I suspect that is why folks may sign up during a drive but when they realized the effort involved they may back down.

Anyway, I'll talk to my stem cell coordinator and get the real scoop on donation process.

LOL. Ben, can you hear me now?... let me move to another hospital bed. Is that better? Where is the Verizon crew when I need them?

You know if this continues, they will move me to the MD Anderson mental ward since cancer patients are not supposed to be reading emails and laughing all the time.

Thanks and take care.

I think this thread is just more proof of what a great place we have here. We all truly care about one another even though most of us have never met. I think that is the way it is supposed to be. I agree that we should make this a sticky so we can find it more easily when we want an update. Keep up the good fight Ruide we are all praying for your recovery. By the way I love all the pictures too I just wish I could post my own but I don't even have a scanner to scan some in.

Well Ruide, I can't say it enough, what an inspiration you are. If I'm feeling down, I just think about the good attitude you're having through your cancer, and suddenly everything just feels better. We are ALL pulling for you.

you get well now, good and quick.

He Ruide I went down to Waynesville ohio to red stewert airport this weekend.
they hold a fly-in every Labor day weekend.
weather was great, I saw lots of planes and the air-show with lots of great stunt pilots.
One of the pilots was a kid I have known all his life.
to now see him flying stunts is unbelievable but what do you expect he grew up on the airport his folks own. I use to fly with him laying on the shelf behind my seat he was only 2 months old.
anyway just wanted to say hi and let you know it's been a very nice weekend here in Ohio.

I think this has been asked before, but can this be made sticky? Should we send Mike a PM about it? I'm sure he's on here a lot, but I don't know if he has time to read every single post in every thread.
