In Portland Oregon today , some people were having trouble lighting their propane stove. Apparently they had so much trouble the TT filled with propane and when the stove finally lite, the explosion was so great it split the corners of the front of the TT away from the rest of the TT. Please be careful with the propane gas, saw the pictures and don't know how any one could survive such an explosion. two adults in hospital with bad burns, 11 yr old boy with less severe burns.

That's terrible. Propane is not something to guess about. I hope everyone survives OK. Prayers are out to them.

Our thoughts are with the family. Lets be careful out there!

I know of a guy that was blowing up balloons with a propane torch for a birthday party while smoking, you can guess what happened next he ended up with bad burns and no hair and his son got burns also but not as bad ,you would have thought he would known better then that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with these unfortunate RVers. A volunteer firefighter for 22 years in our rural, "bedroom" county adjoining McClennan County, in which Waco is located, I have been on many calls such as this, mostly dealing with mobile homes and RVs, but I have also seen a pier & beam house with crawl space below the floor blown completely off it's foundation by a propane explosion.

What makes propane so dangerous, aside from the fact that it is a flammable gas, is the fact that unlike many gases, which are lighter than air and dissipate quickly, propane is so much heavier than ordinary air, it immediately sinks to the floor or ground, and unless there is a very stiff breeze blowing, it can collect in any low area, even a slight depression in the ground outside in the open air. Although you can't see it, it "puddles" just like water in low areas, and concentrates there if there's no strong wind or air currents to forcibly carry it away. One spark in this concentrated gas is all it takes to create a tragedy.

Be careful using your LP-gas systems, folks. In RVs, they're as dandy and useful as pockets on a shirt, but they can also be very deadly.

As a propane specialist we do safety training courses all the time, and just when you thought you had heard it all, someone raises the bar....
Was this guy nominated for the Darwin Awards?

Well . . . . isn't propane heavier than air? Wouldn't balloons filled with it float like rocks?

safe travels,
