The other day I visited Ford dealer and really like the 2008 Powerstroke 2500 crew cab. I asked him how many miles per gallon? He said average for city about 12 and highway 14 and if lucky may get 16. I was shocked. I thought it would get better fuel mileage than gas engine. He said it is because of two turbo which draw lot of fuel but at the same time boost horsepower. So my question is does this sound right to you? I have never own Ford in my life so I would appreciate it if you would share about this. Thanks

see thedieselstop.com for more input from only '08 PSD owners. The 6.4 seems to be a fuel hog compared to its older 6.0/7.3 owners.

All of the new 08+ diesel trucks do very poorly in gas mileage because of all the extra emissions equipment that they had to add on. Good to hear of a dealer giving realistic numbers on the trucks.

Wow, that's pretty low for a diesel. I get 12-13 towing with my F250 6.0 PSD.

There is a cost to having to have a truck that will tow 20K lbs up a 45% grade at 90 MPH. And the new diesel owners are paying it dearly at the pump.

In 2008 they all had to meet new emission standards set by the EPA. All new diesels suffered a significent drop in MPG. The timing couldn't have been much worse with the high cost of fuel and lower mileage.

I have a 2008 F250 6.4 with Supercab, 8 foot bed. I get about 17mpg mostly highway with some city.
I keep my speed around 65 mph or lower. Truck is terrific.

I own an '08 F250 6.4 PSD.
Yes, he is correct, wow and very honest, this is a good salesman.
Like everyone already posted, ALL new Diesels that comply with the strict '07 EPA laws suffer with poorer mpg's. I believe the biggest contributor to poor mpg's is the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). The first turbo for the Ford is actually powered by the exhaust gases so no extra fuel there.
Ford probably has the worst MPG's, of the big 3.
Gas engine won't get any better, towing it will be worse then the diesel, I'm sure of it.

Have a friend who has a 08 F350 crew cab PSD and he gets 16 hwy and 10/11 when towing his 35' King of the Road 5er. None of the new diesels are getting decent mileage.
