I don't know of many things that chap me more than taking my groceries to the check-out and seeing some clown toss around and drop my food, and I’m mainly talking about produce here. I don't mind very much if it's a can of beans or such, since that will only damage the counters and other store property, but, after I go through and pick out the fruits and vegetables that are the best looking of what they have, without damage or bruises, and then I see that clerk take them and drop them on the scales and then toss them to the bagging area, I can't keep my mouth shut. I tell them quick that it's my high priced food that they are throwing around and they had better refrain from continuing the practice. (it doesn't always come out that calm and clean but...)
What are these people thinking, if they are thinking at all? Doesn’t management train them to be careful with the food that the customers are in there to purchase?
Just wondering if this bothers anyone else or does it not bother you to pay high prices and then have your food tossed around like it was a rubber toy.
Just to be fair, I've also had a "very few" clerks that handled the food like it was a new born baby. I've, gratefully, praised them for their technique.

Along the lines of....

Been there, done that, got a degree so I wouldn't have to do it ever again....
What do you expect for min wage? The store training is not in customer service but in cash register operation so they don't loose any money. You think it's bad there, try California, where the cashiers are unionized and still throw things around, even tho they make a good wage and have proper training. If the store says anything to them, they file a union grievance, so it really makes no difference where you live or what the pays is, their still not customer oriented.

Get a rapport with a checker that is more attentive to the customers.
I live in a small town and there is a gentleman who has been with the store for years. We are on a first name basis and always exchage pleasantries when doing bussiness. Sometime I will wait in line which may be longer than others just to get a person who I know will be respectful.
The extra time in line allows be to peruse the latest Cosmopolatian so I can read all about what I am doing wrong (LOL)
I am surprised that kind of issue still exist. We have been whelmed, not overwhelmed, but whelmed with the service we get. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part, we have very friendly, efficient, and "product friendly" service.
We shop "Wally World" a lot for the prices, but also go elsewhere for better meats, produce, and bakery items. Both WW and the competition seem to understand we have a choice, and price may be an issue, but it is not the ONLY issue.
When we are down in Rockport, Texas, there is less competition, but there are locally owned and managed "Mom and Pop" places that act like they really want us to come back (and we do)
I guess what I am thinking is that if you don't get the service or product you want from any particular place, Don't go there. And if you don't have a lot of choices, limit your purchases to absolute minimum. It also wouldn't hurt to let management know why you do or do not shop there. doesn't always get results, but if the store is ever going to be somewhere you want to shop, they will be sensitive to your comments.
Ken, that is exactly right which is why I don't understand why all grocery stores don't instill the importance of taking care of the customer's purchases. I can go else where, and they know it, but many places still don't think about that aspect of the business. Maybe too many people just allow it to pass and don't complain about it and management doesn't know it's an issue.

I have stopped the process and made the checker got get me a new of what ever.. Absolutely no excuse for that behavior.. And yes I do know some excellent checkers and will wait to get one.. And their are some that I absolute avoid like the plague.
Yes that would bother me! And another thing that gets mt dander up is when I have my stuff on the conveyor and one of those devider sticks just behind it and the next person decides they want to push my stuff forward to make more room for his. That's when this old coot comes unglued! Keep your hands off my stuff!!!
