I've got a 4 year old Toshiba 10 gig mp3 player and the thing has been great in terms of battery life and ability to take abuse but,
When I have it plugged in to my van and charging(or keeping it fully charged) the sound quality drops off very noticably.
Anybody else notice this with their MP3 or Ipod?
Anybody know why?

I can notice the buzz only when I have the volume low on the MP3 and high on the stereo(when chagring).
This was reduced when I switched to a different(variable voltage) ciggarette style plug. Running the stereo's power leads directly to the battery(and shunt) helped also. Running the ciggarette plug directly made no difference.
My reduction in sound quality is like placing a piece of plywood in front of all the speakers.

The problem may be the quality of the DC power coming from your Van. Ideally it's DC, but in practice it may have alternator whine superimposed on the DC and this can bother your audio.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

The buzzing which really isn't a factor for me is present weather the van is running or not, whenever the mp3 is charging. There is no buzzing whatsoever if the mp3 is running off its battery.
I cannot notice the buzzing if the charging mp3 is at full volume and I regulate the volume with the stereo.
The volume level of the buzzing is different using different cig plugs.
My radio shack 4.5 volt plug is way noisier than my vector multi voltage plug set at either 4.5 or 6 volts.
It occurs even when I disconnect every other electrical component in the vehicle. It's not RFI.
It's just kind of strange how charging it reduces the clarity of the highs and halves the bass.
I Appreciate your responses.

In that case I'd contact the manufacturer, sounds like a defect in design or product

Okay I'll admit to being a moron.
When charging the mp3 it turns off the internal equalizer for whatever reason.
If I have it set to neutral/ flat and disconnect the charger there is no difference in sound quality.
