The valves on these are very sensitive. Here's what I do and this should fix the problem:
Turn on the valve at the propane tank very slowly.
Wait at least one minute before trying to light the grill.
When you are finished grilling and ready to turn it off. Close the valve on the propane tank first and then turn off the knob on the grill.
Do this each time and it should light reliably and get hot enough to cook all food properly.
Also, be sure to keep the holes in the burner tube clear/free of burned on food. They can affect performance as well.
That's what I would have said!

We had the same problem when hooking up to our 20# # tank. Called Webers, they said you MUST TURN THE PROPANE ON VERY VERY SLOWLY. THEY WERE CORRECT and that became a pain in the rear. Sometime I was just not slow enough and had to wait and do it again. This was the first BBQ that I was disapointed in of Webers. Got to be a pain doing this, sold our 220 webers bq and have gone back to good old charcoal. Sure start, great taste.

Thanks to all who have responded, especially the advice from bandmjdavis. I will give this a try. Otherwise I guess I will stick with the blue bottles of propane.

We initially had a problem with ours getting hot enough when using a 20lb bottle. I called Weber and the rep said to open the knob on the grill all the way and let it run for 1 minute before lighting. Worked like a charm and haven't had a problem with them... yep, bought two... one for MH and one for stick house.

Not relevant to the problem and I see you will use the blue bottles if it doesn't work for you.
Just wanted to let you know that the green (larger diameter) bottles work just fine too. You will have to remove one side of the hoop rest. I've never used the blue bottles on mine; only the green ones.
I've thought about getting one of the Camping World 11 lb tanks but now I don't know if I will or not.

We have a Q300 at home that runs on a 20# bottle just fine. We have a smaller one for the coach, and it runs off the coach propane just fine.
