I am going to be making a Gumbo soon. I have some frozen okra. Do I just add it at the beginning? Isn't it used as a thickener, or should I rinse the gooey stuff off first? If I do that will it still thicken the Gumbo?

Do you mean gumbo maybe? Frozen should be fine.

The gooey part is part of okra - you can't rinse it off permanently. Just put the frozen okra directly into the gumbo and it will flavor it.

And you are correct=the "goo" does indeed thicken the liquid!
