The diesel motor is covered for 5ys/ 100K miles.
So the extended warranty will cover the rest of the vehicle.

If you do get an extended warranty, buy the Ford Premium Care.
No hassles with having an adjuster come out and approve the repairs.
You can get you money back if the extended warranty has never been used.

Maybe the good price of $1,320.00 I got on my Dodge warranty was due to my year truck still having the old Chrysler 7/70 drivetrain warranty, so my extended covered the remainder of the vehicle bumper to bumper.

Anyway, I agree, Ford, Dodge, GM..........These diesels can be expensive if something breaks.

I never go with the extended. My youngest daughter bought it on her SUV against my advice. She had her transmission go out and after seeing the repair bill she didn't have to pay , I was having a crow dinner. I don't advise against it anymore but do say deal for the lowest price and go for coverage on the power-train.

Well folks I have already settled on the price of the truck and that has been paid for/partly financed. I hear you talking about oil changes...I believe the oil changes on the F450 are at 6,000 or 10,000 miles, per their warranty, depending on how you drive. The powertrain aspect I will look into.

By the way negotiating for the truck was hard, true that trucks are moving slow but so are other vehicles....dealers are having a hard time right now and are cutting back on staff as a result. Bottom line is they cannot sell vehicles at a loss...somehow they are caught....tough one obviously.

For your info the dealer knocked off $4,890 + $6,500 in rebates from a $54,365MSRP. Additionally I traded my Silverado so personally I was satisfied with my final cost.

I would suggest only buying a "factory" ext warranty. Never a 3rd party one. Take it from someone who has had a 3rd party insurance plan(thats tecnicly what they are) and gotten the shaft. Not to mention the 3rd party plans keep your vehicle in the shop much longer, waiting for the adjuster to get there and "take thier readings" then report back to base. Then the mothership gets back to the dealer on thier offer. Then the dealer calls you and says " they will pay X or they wont pay at all". Then you call the mothership and get voicemail. Mother ship calls you back sometime and offers to have thier adjuster look at your vehicle again, rinse and repeat.

Its a bad deal.

We purchased an extended 75000 mile warranty and the work we have done so far this week came to 17 hours and 903.00 in parts. Plus they are now taking the Blower off to check it and clean it.
The bill will probably run about 3600.00
For us “Boy are we glad we purchased it”
Plus you sleep better about it.

This was a Ford warranty we purchased on the Internet at the Ford authorized web site.

I did not initially take one when I bought my F450 but obtained it after a load of bad fuel as part of the settlement with the fuel provider. I would not feel a need for one if buying another one of these trucks. Be sure to have the recall work completed on the truck and the flash updates. There is a lot of information on the dieselstop forums. Good luck with the truck, you are going to love it.

We're debating this issue right now, too. We just bought a 2006 Chevy Suburban 2500 8.1/4.10. It has only 21,000 miles on it, but the factory 3-year/36,000 mile warranty will be up on September 30 of this year -- just 7 weeks from now. Since it is brand new to us, we really don't know how it has been treated/maintained.

I went to our local Chevy dealer to look into extended warranties. They quoted me $1,695 for the General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) with an additional 3 years and 54,000 miles of coverage. The deductible is $100 (a no deductible option is $1,930 and a $200 deductible option is $1,525). That would extend our warranty to September 30, 2011, and 75,000 miles. Service has to be performed at a GM dealer.

I had to ask about the GMPP plan, though, because they first tried to sell me a plan from something called "The Mechanic." The "platinum" plan supposedly provides bumper-to-bumper coverage, with service available from any ASE-certified mechanic. The 3rd party contract with a $100 deductible was priced at $1,461 for an additional three years and 60,000 miles, so it is about $200 cheaper than the GM program and adds 6,000 miles of coverage.

We're leaning strongly toward doing the GMPP with the $200 deductible, because I don't trust the 3rd party plans for the reasons someone else described above. I need to shop around a bit more, though, to see if I can find more options and a better price.

I'd go for it.........Just read my "almost horror story" back a few posts. Just 5 months before our factory warranty ran out, we lost the turbo charger and the A.C. compressor on a towing trip to the Grand Canyon/AZ. It would have cost us about $4,000.00/parts/labor out of pocket if we hadn't been under warranty.

Nothing wrong with an extended warranty if you stick to a factory one, where you know it will be recognized/ok'd at any service department of your brand of vehicle.

Glad things worked out for her.

When we bought my wife's '06 Pontiac G6 Coupe earlier this year, we purchased the GM plan as well. The $200 deductible made the most sense. 3 year/36K miles for around $1300.

I don't believe that ALL service has to be performed at a GM dealer--just anything that goes wrong covered under the warranty. Just keep your receipts for any service done and follow the maintenance schedule.

I don't buy warranties on all my vehicles---but we got a pretty good deal on this car--so we went for it.

We bought a Mercury Sable station wagon in the 1990s that probably had in excess of $5,000 of warranty work done (AC, transmission, starter) and just paid the deductible.
