DRV (DoubleTree) has made some upgrades on their insulation and options for 2009. We were at their factory early last month. Guaranteed to zero degrees.
While we are perfectly comfortable in the AL sun and snows of winter in VA, we're considering trading our unit for a new one. We might be looking at 2009-2010.
DRV has a 40' 2-bedroom unit. But we're thinking about a 38TK3 which would give us 2 more feet of living space. Which is nice when we have our GD with us each summer.

When considering which 5ver to purchase, please remember to keep in mind what tow vehicle you will be using. When we decided on Teton we knew we'd need a heavy duty tow vehicle. And it's not just pulling the rig to consider. Your TV has to have enough braking power to stop the rig, too.
Your adventure sounds fantastic. Good luck and be safe.

Note that the wording is for an RV MADE for full-timing not just an RV that people full-time in.

I know that I'm well satisfied with my Hitchhiker II LS, I've had it since April 03 and am able to pull it with a heavy 3/4 ton pickup.
WTTCS makes a good point, you cannot learn too much before you buy. Suggestion, find some RV parks in your area and drive around to see if you can find an older model of the brand that you are considering and visit with the owners, see how it hold up in person.
Nifty250 makes a good point also, consider your tow vehicle. Good luck and have fun, it's a wonderful life.

Take a look at the Carriage Cameo line. With the dual pane windows and astro foil insulation it's a relatively inexpensive 4 season fiver.
Good luck,

You may want to consider a Big Horn (Heartland Product) for what you are looking for. You would want to be sure it has double pane windows though as that is an optional item. Enjoy your experience. Happy camping! - Eric-

My family and I did what you are planning on doing in a Travel Supreme. Unfortunately they are no longer in business, but they made a great full-time unit.
