My beloved cat Samantha is sick and we don't know with what. Have had her at the vet twice. On Saturday she got a fat bottom lip and had a sore on her paw that wouldn't heal. They diagnosed a common allergic reaction to something for the fat lip (a grandioloma?) and cleaned her paw out so it would heal. She got two shots-antibiotic shot for her paw infection and a steroid for her lip.

Paw looks good as does the lip.

However, the last night or so she became very listless and was barely moving and would hide under beds. We then noticed that she was seeming to have a hard time breathing or breathing fast. So I grabbed her quick and ran her to the vet that treated her on Saturday (regular vet office was closed). I went back thinking it might have been the medications and a reaction to them. They wanted $522.00 to diagnose her. I said no thanks and called my regular vet who charged me $150.00 for the same thing. They hydrated her, gave her a vitamin B shot and took blood for testing.

I don't get test results till tomorrow and i'm beside myself. She just lays around and sleeps. She won't eat or drink no matter what I do.

I'm near tears. I thought maybe I could get some sympathy from rv.net members

Do you think what trigger the initial reaction could still be in her enviroment. What age? Best wishes.

You've certainly got my sympathy. Here's hoping it is a reaction, and a passing one at that...

Be sure you love on her all you can while you wait.

Ditto to Calpine’s post…When Baby was with me she would get sores and such all the time. Rushed her to the vet a number of times, one such time they lanced a wound she had to let the poison out. I could not figure out how she would get hurt, very frustrating.

A lot of people don’t understand how our four legged friends become as important to us as a family member (as they are now part of the family). Then, if we have to explain, they wouldn’t understand anyway.

I will pray that your Vet will have the knowledge to diagnose what is causing Samantha to be so ill. Keep us posted….

Wow, that does sound scary, but kitties do seem to have nine lives so hopefully she will be alright. The first thing that comes to mind is bug bites, but who knows? Edna (orange tabby) once snapped a bee out of the air and got stung in her mouth. OMG, her eyes and mouth ran water and she was so miserable but with some Benadryl, she was okay. Hoping your baby is much better tomorrow. Be sure and let us know what the vet says.

although it is not very common but I ran across it with 2 dogs, perhaps your cat 'also' had a reaction to the antibiotics?

My dogs eye, yes one eye, started swelling up right after a shot of antibiotics. I showed it to the vet before leaving the office and he thought she had banged it against something. My answer to that was 'from the vet office to the front desk to pay"? Then in about another 2 minutes the eye was really swollen. We came to find out she was allergic to any antibiotic that ends in cylin.

We will keep you and your cat in our prayers tonight. Hope everything turn out ok, keep us posted.

You certainly have our concern and sympathy. What a horrible ordeal and waiting on the lab results is stressful.

My cat has had very bad reactions to antibiotics over the years. She even seemed to have hallucinations (that was scary).

Please let us know how your kitty is later today.

Hugs to you and Samantha from Nova Scotia. I am praying for her recovery from this. It sounds scary but you did the right thing by getting her immediate attention. Keep us posted. Give her lots of kisses that will help her feel better also.
