So sad. Take some consolation in that it was fast. Let yourself grieve for her.

What a pretty picture, the pink sheets with the tuxedo kitty. Bet that photo finds a place of honor in your home. How did the paw prints stepping stone project turn out?

I'm so sorry that it turned out this way. They never stay long enough. Take care of each other.... it'll get easier to handle after a while. And you may find she'll send you a new friend to keep you in line...

It was hard. She was so bad by the time we got home and limp and was "pushing" us away so to get a good print I ended up having to do it 3 times because it seemed too watery and the prints kept fading. I've done a LOT of these stepping stones and was getting frustrated because this is the one that REALLY mattered to me. And it wasn't working!
3rd times the charm though and I got one good print, 1 decent and 2 that started disappearing. So on the one's that were disappearing, I ended up using the river stones and pushing them into where her paw pads were so they're still her prints - just outlined with the small rocks. I'm happy with the results though. I put "Mantha Kitty" on the top and '98-'08 on the bottom. It's curing now - tomorrow I remove it from the mold and it will sit for 2 weeks to cure completely before going in her favorite spot in my garden that she liked to hang out in.
After a rough night for all of us, today is actually been better. Morning was really hard and all of us woke up crying. But, we had to pull it together 'cause we'd made reservations for a tour of Dodger Stadium (Think Blue - Go Dodgers!) and instead of canceling my hubby said that it would be good since we'll be able to spend the morning together. He was right, it was a great diversion for us. It ended up taking a long time due to traffic coming home (gotta love L.A.) and we stopped for lunch. We still hurt, still have a hole in our hearts but we no longer cry at saying her name.
I've started a notebook - it's staying on the table and anytime any of us thinks of a funny or cute or just a "mantha thing" we're writing it down. I'm then going to take those and put a scrapbook together of all this pictures we took of her - good and bad - add the stories and "retire" her favorite toy (got that idea at Dodger Stadium when we saw the retired jerseys hanging on the wall).
So...we're still grieving but it's better. My 14 year old said yesterday she realized that we were doing the right thing when I had to push her paw into the cement the third time and how she way meowing/crying while I did that. It was at that point she knew we were doing the right thing. I'm glad she came to that conclusion because it's easier to cope and deal with the pain when you know why you had to do something.
But you know what? Life sucks sometimes and it isn't fair.
As a Christian i've always felt that even though animals don't have soul - it's because they don't need one. They are God's animals, created by Him. The aren't born sinful like humans are and don't have free will to choose. God made them and he owns them. He made perfectly clear that his creatures are dear to Him as he lays out how he takes care of the lowly sparrow. So....I believe that animals don't need a soul because they go to the creator who made them because they are His, made and given to us for our enjoyment and then He takes them home and enjoys them.
Oh...and do those paw print stepping stones NOW before you are forced to last minute. It wasn't a fun thing to do but I knew I wanted it and wanted it badly. Do it when it's fun and your animal is healthy - it's much easier on the heart and the animal. I'm glad I did it though.
But you know what? it still sucks!

I'm so very sorry for your loss, we too went through this in January with our beloved Teddy, everyone is right they do hide their illness very well, we had no idea how sick Teddy was, his routine was basically the same, then suddenly he was very ill and we had to put him down, when it happens so fast it's even more diffcult to deal with, there's just no time to process it all until after.
My thoughts and prayers with you, she was a beautiful kitty and I can tell she was very much loved.
