When we used to tent camp in the 80s and 90s, we loved Mineral King at Sequoia National Park. I don't recall amenities other than trees, a running creek, huge furry marmots, and horseback riding up to a gorgeous clear mountain lake with trout in it.
We once stayed in the Columbia SP. It was quite an adventure. We did not camp out but stayed in the Fallon Hotel. It is in the town and has been kept to the old standards. No TV or phones in the rooms and the showers were down the hall. It has been used for various movies as an original western town hotel. There are also RV parks in the area (click here). We stayed there about 15 years ago, hope it has not changed much.
