I have a FR Surveyor 233T and would like to know if anyone can tell me how much weight will the rear bumper will hold. The rear bumper is the square tube type that holds the sewer hose. Also attached is the spare tire.
I am thinking about a bike rack on the rear bumper but not sure how safe it might be.
Any info will be appreciated.

Hi,

Like he said, it's coming! there is a bizillion posts regarding this subject on this forum. I have even posted about it so be warned. 1. Ask your dealer. I was told by by dealer that neither a rear or front bike rack on my trailer was a good idea. The rear bumper is not made for it and could bend the bumper. 2. those bikes will bounce like crazy and how will you know if you lose one or 2 or the rack, you cannot see them. Front rack will increase the tongue weight. dealer said if I cannot mount them ontop of TV, I should put them inside trailer. Good luck!

Despite all the "sky is falling" posts on this I've yet to see a first hand account of a bent rear bumper or broken bike rack.

My rear bumper is welded so I would be concerned about mounting to it. Just thought of this now. If it is not recommended to add a rack to the rear with the tire, What about moving or relocating the spare tire so that you could put a bike rack on the rear. Question would be where to or could you relocate the spare?

hrmm..

I've seen folks with 3 2 inch receivers bolted to the rear bumper and one big "shelf" of sorts "plugged" into all 3.. 4500 watt china geny, BBQ, bikes, tools and tires all strapped onto it...had to have been at least 500 pounds...

I just cant see a bike rack being a problem... I've been planning on buying one for the rear bumper, or one that straps onto the spare tire...

If you are going to put a bike rack or similar back there, you MUST have your bumper reinforced. Even then, nothing is guaranteed! I have read several firsthand posts of individuals losing bikes due to cracked bike racks or bent/fallen bumpers. 4hpycmpers, Scott_C (I think), and a few others have a very lrg tool chest back there after welded reinforcement -- check out their photos or shoot them a PM for info.

You can check out this thread for pictures of our setup. I had it done after I read about taborek's (a previous HTT owner and rv.net member). However, eventually, for who knows what reason exactly, his bikes became a pile of twisted metal after the rack broke and dragged behind the HTT.

Are we happy with our rack? Yes, and we'd do it again. But I keep the number of bikes to a min and look for wear on the rack and welded areas regularly.

I can't remember who it was, but someone with some real talent has a setup on his bumper for his stinky slinky equipment. It had to weigh less than 20lbs all said n done though.

Ok, I finally found them...
Mike54 & Fortel each have a nice setup -- check out this thread for pix of both.
