Well, it would help if the thread didn't criticize other people just because of how they spend their money.
The three sentences;
1.I cannot understand those who constantly trade units.
2.Must have money to burn.
3.I outgrew trying to impress my neighbors and relatives a long time ago.:
tells me that they think they know better than I how I should spend my money. I earned it, I will spend it. It also hints at the fact that I am immature enough to only spend money to impress others. I guess unwarranted criticism because you don't like someone else's life style or spending habits is mature. Well, ok.
You're right, beat him up.
But I am a pacifist. Would you do it for me?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Thanks for all the great advice.
Don`t know about the four hundred dollar watch, however, tomorrow is yard sale day and I will be on the lookout for a coffee cup.

I love garage/yard sales...I often refurbish a sister's or brother's home for pennies on the dollar....the only thing is I really truly wish they'd quit using the really nice used towels I buy for curtains

Because they want to.
Our first MH was a 17' Type B Okanagan. Our dog decided the couch we hers so we had to get a bigger rig, we moved up to a 29' type C. Wife wanted a slideout, so it was up to a 35' Type A double slide . Then we decided we were going full timing in our MH so we got a 39' DP, but it only had one slide. Wife decided we needed more room so now we have the 41' DSDP.

Now you believe that you have a superior upbringing than someone that has a rig that is newer than 15 years old?
Dude, now you are just pushing for a fight. We've ALL had our own upbringings, all of them different. He didn't say "superior" anywhere in his post, YOU DID. You seem to be the one with the problem here, not him.
His original post said he didn't UNDERSTAND. That doesn't imply superior, inferior, or any other snotty connotation that many of you implied.
I wake up every day to things I don't understand, the reason I am not an ignorant hillbilly is that I ASK about what I don't understand, then I DO understand it. Every single day, a little smarter.
Like this morning, I learned how touchy some people are when ask why they do something a certain way (even though no one mentioned that there way was wrong). However I still don't understand WHY they are this way.
Here are just a few of the things I don't understand TODAY...
==================
I don't understand why some people are so touchy when asked why they do something a certain way.
I don't understand why some people trade in every year or two.
I don't understand why some people keep their rigs for 20 years in a falling apart and unreliable state.
I donb't understand why some people have 3 or 4 different RVs at the SAME TIME.
I don't understand why people put every last detail about every last accessory added to thier truck, then just list the model number of their RV in their signatures. This is an RV forum, not a truck forum.
I don't munderstand how people can buy cheap, loud generators and stand it themselves let alone be so inconsiderate of others.
I don't understand how anyone can actually enjoy being packed into a KOA (Kamping on Asphalts) like sardines and call it "camping".
============
Tomorrow, maybe I will understand some of them, some of them I will never understand. Guess it has to do with my UPBRINGING.
I feel neither superior nor inferior about the things I don't understand. I think that ASKING about them is the whole purpose of this forum. Ya think?
I guess the short list above of things I don't understand is enough ammo for some to flame me about what a bad person I am for at least another 5 or 6 pages. All in the name of learning, eh?

I'm going to jump in here and say we need to make it socially acceptable to question extravagant spending. We have gone from the world's biggest creditor to the world's biggest debtor. We owe nearly 10 trillion in government debt and there is about 2 trillion more if you count the bonds the government owes itself for to repay Social Security. We have a huge credit crisis due to massive foreclosures and people financing every toy under the sun.
It might be okay for you, but those numbers clearly show it isn't okay for most or everyone. Someone needs to start questioning. It isn't okay to just say keep your nose out of it because when that dumb neighbor keeps rolling home with the new trailer financed with their 125% of already inflated market value mortgage and then can't pay it, they claim ignorance and stick their hands out to be rescued from their own stupidity claiming no one ever told or taught them better.
So I say question it loud and question it proud. Conspicuous consumption has got to go.
Let's see-my first tt was purchased new in 96, a 24' that I outgrew. Back then I smoked like a house afire, and it ruined the interior. I sold it and bought a 2nd hand 34' class A. (I quit smoking in 99) I lived in it 6 years. (It was a 95 model). It runs like a new one, but the paint has faded, the tape stripes look bad, the carpet is shot, and the springs in the sofa have given up. With a new paint job being close to 15K, I decided that it would cost more than it was worth to fix up, I wanted to downsize anyway, so I will be donating the A to our Humane Society. I bought a 2 year old B+ to replace it, and will likely keep this one quite awhile. So for me, that's three rvs in less than 10 years. Things may not always be as they seem to a casual observer-I have friends that bought a new Coachmen class A that was a lemon from day one-and Coachmen treated them badly after nearly a year of trying to repair it's many troubles. They finally gave up and traded it off. 2 new rvs in two years! None of us was trying to pee away money, or impress anyone-see? ;-)
My late father-in-law traded cars every year when they were first released. He did it year after year, never driving his new car more than about 6,000 highway miles. At trade-in time the dealer always allowed him sticker price less $500 on his old car, so he had to pay for inflation plus $500 per hear. He never had to spend a dollar on maintenance, never had to buy tires, never even had to wax his cars. It would have been tough to beat his auto expenses driving an old car.
If you find a good dealer and take good care of your vehicles, it doesn't necessarily cost any more to drive new ones. I don't know if there are any camper dealers who would cut deals like that, but maybe....
Also, as has been said, needs do change. We bought a new camper two years ago, smaller than our previous one. Now we want to full-time so want a bigger, 4-season camper. We'll trade when we feel we can afford to do so.
Oh, the last trade? Our old 16-year-old camper broke an axle while we were vacationing. It was Saturday morning and we were on a tight schedule. We could wait until Monday when the techs could replace the axle or trade for a new 5er and be back on the road in hours. The axle was the culmination of lots of minor problems we'd had on our old 5er and we said the heck with it. Financially, that was probably a costly decision, but I don't really regret it. Call it pride of ownership or put your own label to it, I like having a newer rig.

And who is going to be the appointed arbiter of what is socially acceptable to spend?
