I have a couple questions that likely have been gone over several times. (Search for info came up empty)

How are fifth wheel lengths measured? From the pin or box length?

Many CA state campgrounds have a 24' max trailer length. Can a fifth wheel main box (not the area over the truck bed) length be 24' ? Meaning a 30' fiver may fit in a campground with a 24' trailer length.

Thanks!

Fifth wheels are measured from end to end - including pinboxes, ladders, bumpers, etc.

the advertised length will vary according to the manufacturer. some say length is from front wall to rear, others pinbox to bumper, others somewhere in between. only true way is to do it yourself. i agree with the above that it should be measured total length. mine advertised is 37 feet and some change, but according to the tape it is 40'. important info to have when it comes to parking. it is also advisable to measure height yourself also. a 2x4 placed across at the highest point will allow to you measure to the ground.

My 5er is a model 270rks.....27' rear kitchen. The actual length including the spare tire and extended pin box is closer to 32'. The actual length is always longer than the advertised model length.

From the furthest point forward to the furthest point in the rear.
Mine is listed as 38' long. Actual length from the front cap to the back cap is probably 36'.

I have always given the actual length. I don't pay attention to the advertised length unless it's accurate.

I just bought a new fifth. On the CO it states that it is 32'6", but when I measure it back to cap (not including the bumper), it is 36'. That seems like one heck of a discrepancy. I wonder what they were measuring when they came up with that number? I can't come up with 32'6" even if I ignore the overshot.

Here is how it was explained to me. Joe buyer goes looking for an RV he doesn't want to go to big maybe 33 ft or so. Some manufacturers will state there units is 33 ft. when it really is 36.5 ft. Well after joe and the wife walk through 15 different fiver's they say wow this one seems so much bigger inside. It is all just a sales tactic just like advertised weights some are right some aren't.
