there's a nice campground just south of the visitor center on the east end of the park.
be advised that it is pretty hot there at this time... high 80s and 90s by day.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
You should be able to get a site in the campgrounds in the park. They are first come-first served. Stop at the campground first to secure a site, before traveling around the park. Campground was about 2/3rd's full by nightfall in June. The KOA in Interior is only about two miles from NP campground.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting a site in the park for tent camping. There are two campgrounds, one near the visitor center that has water available and flush toilets and another that has pit toilets and no water available. We stayed at the KOA in Interior, one of the nicer KOA's IMO. They've got any area dedicated to tent camping.
i was looking at the koa campground there in interior. could you tell me what the tent village is? does each tent site have this enclosed kamping kitchen?
not too sure i would want to stay primitive with hight temps. i think i would prefer a site with electric for the a/c. lol

Your tent has a/c?
not yet, but i am getting a small window air and getting the a/c boot or try to rig something similiar myself. i am just waiting for a good deal sale now. at this time of year the a/c's are starting to drop in price. lowes has one now original price 138, sale price 128, with an additional 10%.
If you want an electric site, that will probably not be in the tent area - certainly not in the tent "villages." Those are hard to describe w/o a picture (and I don't have one), but they are wooden structures which have about 4-6 triangular sections around the outside of them, each of which accommodates a small to medium-sized tent and some gear. You park around the edge of the thing, or nearby. The point of each triangle has a shelf that you can use for a kitchen area, but I don't think they each have a camper kitchen - I think there are a few of those scattered around the tent area, sort of a picnic shelter type affair (as I recall) with a sink or two & some counter space, and maybe a grill. There's some visual privacy, but you're really in pretty close quarters with other tenters.
Anyway, I'd recommend a campsite instead. I agree, the KOA is the nicest CG in the area of the Badlands, and has a good deal of shade. The national park CG is open with no shade, and nothing to break the wind, but is less expensive and has a good view of some of the Badlands formations. No experience with the other CG you mentioned; we did notice one that's behind a small motel and it looked sort of ok (tight sites, right by the road, sparse trees, but a bit of a view of the Badlands.)
The Badlands/White River KOA in Interior website has photos and virtual tours, and there's a number you could call and ask any questions about electric or kitchens. Perhaps a Kabin would have electric and/or AC? We had to cancel a planned trip there earlier this summer due to a medical emergency and they were very kind. http://www.koa.com/where/sd/41111/
