We were there just this summer. Only we spent all of our time on the U.S. side. It was very nice, and our campground, Four Mile Creek S.P. was past top notch!

I would allow for 4 to 5 days depending on what you are interested in seeing, the falls alone- a few attractions, museums, time to wonder around, etc allow 1 1/2 to 2 days for. The surounding area a day for a quick trip accross the north part of the peninsula, up the parkway to NOTL, west accross st catharines to jordan and vineland loop back along the top edge of the escarpment, along that a few little towns all the wineries some parks and conservation areas, fort george, queenston heights (war of 1812 sites) a couple of small waterfalls lots of scenic photo opertunities. that would take one long day early start late finish and thats rushing and missing alot, better if you had 2 days on that one, one to do the parkway NOTL and sites along there, then the rest of north and the upper edge of the escarpment. then head west through central niagara and back east through southern along the erie shore, a few sandy beaches, to fort erie then north up the parkway back to the falls, there is less to see in southern as it is mostly farmland but the beaches could kill an afternoon easily. all done in 4-5 days.
As I said though it all depends on what you want to see and do, what your personal interests are. There are alot of historic sites, scenic sites, craft gift and antique shops, live theater (more than just "ocanada eh"), a dozen or more golf courses, 2 car race tracks, one horse race track, various festivals in all the towns throught the year, a few fishing spots, boating, beaches, etc etc.
